Yes, $100,000. When I went to Cedar Rapids to collect, they took out 1/3, giving me a check for $67,000. The 1/3 was taxes.

Well I know you'd rather have 2/3rd than nought at all...but even so, I'd be absolutely gutted if they took a whole 3rd of winnings from me...wow!! I've heard of people winning things like boats and cars in the USA , and then having to sell it to pay the taxes on it...is that true?

So you won and collected in the state of Iowa? $67K would reflect they took out both federal and state taxes, but still a nice chunk of money to win. It's my understanding it takes about 30 days to actually collect.

Among things they check for is back child support, student loans owed, IRS liens, and outstanding warrants.

Things may have changed since 1994. I won on a Saturday night drawing. Went to collect on the following Monday morning. Got my check, came home and deposited it in my bank. I owed my x wife some money at the time and paid her, with interest.

Interesting. Maybe the 30 days applies to the large lottery jackpots of millions.

I've won $1,000 a few times and had to go to a certain bank, sat and waited about 30 minutes while they checked some things. Here if you win more than $10K you have to go to the regional office to collect.

*From their surveys $15.00, so far. I hope to win the $250,000 a yr. forever prize in their sweepstakes area. Free to join and free to play. Once you make Pro Gamer status you can play for $2,500. instant win. It's the hope that you may win and they do pay out, so I play and hope. Other game sites you got to compete for money or prizes. The one place I found where you just gain stars, and redeem stars for gift cards is closing, prize.com/games. I don't like to compete for the money or prizes. I always do a Norton Safe Web check before I go to join sites and BBB check too. Good luck if you'd like to win money and prizes!

My husband buy lottery ticket but sometimes only when the total winning amount is already big. I think that there is nothing wrong playing this kind of game just for the hope and chance of winning.
