This is my adorable companion: Snowball I believe he's a French Lop. He gets to free roam my house (We keep all our cords away to make the house rabbit proof). He loves begging for food and sleeping on air vents. He even begs for pretzels lol.
I was gonna ask about your avatar. Of all the pets my family & siblings had growing up, we never had rabbits. Dogs, cats, turtles, chameleon, ducks, fish, neighbor's goat...but no rabbit. How old is Snowball? Are rabbits friendly (do they come when called, like to be held & petted etc.)?
Oh wow, you've had so many interesting pets. Would love to have a duck some day. Which one would you say is your favourite so far? Snowball is just around one years old, he's litter trained, and has a huge personality. He comes if he feels like it, he loves to have his head rubbed and he loves to daydream on the sofa! He's also really sneaky - likes to steal fruits and veggies from right under my nose..
That's interesting about your rabbit. I've often wondered. It's hard to say which was my favorite. I had (4) 10 gallon aquariums when I was younger, back when tropical fish were cheap (10/$1 versus $1 each.) There is nothing like the joy of buying one pregnant Swordtail and having 20 of them by the time you get home!!! (I am so cheap.) I had a rescue dog and cat that lived to be in their early 20s. I loved that dog. She was my buddy. But the cat was mean to everyone but me...would chase friends out of the house. If a car door slammed in the middle of the night, my dog would sleep right through it while my cat would sit up and growl. The duck was an Easter duck gifted to a younger brother. It would sit at the end of the driveway and wait for him to return home whenever he left. It would hop up the stairs and get in the tub with him. When it started breaking ground-level windows by pecking at its own reflection, we found a pond with other ducks and set him free. I live on a large lot now and have thought of getting goats. There's just something about them. But I don't want an animal I have to make sure I'm around to care for. And they have a tendency to seek the highest ground, which just may be the hood and roof of your car!
Your rabbit is adorable, @Sandra Chase ! I have had rabbits before, but not one as a house pet. I think that lop rabbits are the sweetest with those long floppy ears, and I also like angora rabbits. Since people will put the rabbit on their lap and gently pull the fleece to spin it, angoras are one of the tamest rabbits that there is. I was always going to learn how to spin wool, but I never did; so the angora rabbit We had was just a pet, but she lived outside in a rabbit hutch except when we had her outside with us.
You make buying fish sound like the lottery! Your dog sounds wonderful. Oh that duck sounds just adorable, the time you got to spend with him sounds lovely. Wow, if you ever decide to get goats, please do share photographs! Love the personality in them.
Oh Angora rabbits are beautiful, yours must have been lovely. Spinning wool sounds like a great time pass. Snowball would never sit on our laps for long, he's always off trying to cause chaos
When I lived in Indiana, we had friends who had a goat. My childhood memories are of them living on a hill in the woods and the front yards was fenced in. When you opened the gate, if it creaked, you were done-for. You could run as fast as you could to the front door and it was gonna catch you. I always thought that was the neatest thing. And their eyes...there's something so "Jack Nicholson" about them...
This was Nancy's "Rusty." We lost him a few months ago. (I say "we" because Nancy was always threatening to send him to me. )
I used to have two "house bunnies". The older one was sold to me as a little dwarf bunny girl and named Beezus (short for Beatrice nee Potter). When Beezus turned out to be neither dwarf nor female, "she" was renamed Beezul (short for Beelzebub). Beezus/Beezul lived loose in the house, was litter-box trained and thought he was a cat. Nosy, affectionate, smart and into everything and actually learned a couple of tricks. The second one, a little boy named Weezul (because he looked like a weasel) was scared of his shadow and didn't have much personality (or brains). He never grasped the concept of a litter box. We had a cat that thought he was a dog and a dog that thought she was a human. My animals were always a little confused...……..
