I've not tried it yet but I intend to. I live in the country and need to find the supply line from my well, because it crosses where I want to put a lean-to (I need to dig support post holes.) A friend here told me to dowse for them. I told him I don't hunt snipe, but he was dead serious. I've downloaded a video. We'll see. I, too, lack the moral conviction to be a complete skeptic.
As a person who taught a class in dowsing. I will give you a hint first it you think you know where something is that the rods will say you right even if you are not. So keep in your mind where is it and it will show you. I have seen people find what you would say impossible things. I have no scientific proof accept success. I think we know more than we think we know.
@Martin Alonzo Thank you, Martin. Just so I make certain I understand your advice... I know where my well is, and I know where it enters my house, so have a rough idea of where the pipes should be. But they likely make a sweeping arc and are not in a straight line. Are you advising that I (a) visualize where I believe the pipes to be so as to mentally guide the rods to that location, or (b) clear my mind of any idea where the pipes are so as to not unduly influence the rods with my preconceived notion? Also, I am thinking of using the copper from 12AWG Romex wire, stripping off the insulation so as to have the copper conductors as rods. Would that work, or should I seek out another material? Thanks!
I really don't think it is important what you use. I used old coat hangers. I pretend I have no idea where it is and ask the coat hanger to show me. I have a good track record but when I am wrong it is because I thought I knew where it was. Hope this helps trust the part of your brain that you are not aware of.
A lot of people swear by it. But If i need a well and not sure where to dig one, I'd get somebody who thought they were good at it and if and when they said, "Dig here," I'd try it for myself, maybe.
@Hal Pollner When you find out you can tell us. Could you look up conscious thinking too it can not be explain but we all do it.
