I know there's a thread about Donald Trump himself, but I'm creating this because I think this is an important stand alone article. Finally, someone in Washington dares to talk about Washingtonians and those in the 'ruling class' the way we outsiders do. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/01/donald-trump-is-shocking-vulgar-and-right-213572?o=1 This really should be a wake up call to many of those who 'serve' us in our government, but I'm afraid many of them are too blind to see.

"Vulgar" is a strong word. He has certainly said some cringe-worthy things, but vulgar? No. Being that it's in the Title of the article will turn many off from reading the article. I read the article. It uses similar sensational verbiage to get it's point across but it's not against Trump necessarily…not exactly glowing either. It says he could beat Hillary because the democrats will swing his way before they'll swing Cruz's way. That's a given being Cruz's religious openness.

I'm not so sure about this, Lara... remember when he said that Hillary was "schlonged"? That's actually an old Yiddish vulgarity... yep, yep. So, maybe not often, but the initial report, when using that word, must have done their homework and knew it was an accurate assessment.

Note this isn't about Trump (this meaning my post) but just a note from a former journalist confirming that the term vulgar was probably researched and found to be accurate in that case. Don't know what else he's said that may qualify. :)

Trump will participate in campaign slander but not vulgarity. I read that Schlong in Yiddish is a noun, not a verb, for the word snake. Trump said "Hillary was schlonged, she lost, to Obama". He said he meant she was defeated. Since he put "schlonged" and "lost" right next to each other, he was validating that explanation. I believe him when he thought it only meant "defeated".

The Washington Post, which is not generally kind to Trump even said,

“Left-leaning ThinkProgress wrote that ‘Schlong’ is a well-known reference to a man’s genitals. As far as I know there is no such slang verb in Yiddish,” Pinker of the Washington Post wrote, it’s possible that it was a malaprop. Many goyim are confused by the large number of Yiddish terms beginning with ‘schl’ or ‘schm’ (schlemiel, schlemazzle, schmeggegge, schlub, schlock, schlep, schmutz, schnook), and use them incorrectly or interchangeably,” he wrote. “And headline writers often ransack the language for onomatopoeic synonyms for ‘defeat’ such as drub, whomp, thump, wallop, whack, trounce, clobber, smash, trample, and Obama’s own favorite, shellac (which in fact sounds a bit like schlong). So an alternative explanation is that Trump reached for what he thought was a Yinglish word for ‘beat’ and inadvertently coined an obscene one.”

In 2011 Trump also said, "I watched a popular Republican woman [Jane Corwin] not only lose but get schlonged by a Democrat [Kathy Hochul] nobody ever heard of for the congressional seat”. Now that was a comment made about two women and women don't have a you-know-what. So I don't think he knew the non-jewish slang meaning.

It's just another case of Media sensationalism and "gotcha".

Trump says shocking things, even wording things in such a way that they are sure to be misunderstood, because this gets the media talking about him, often stealing the thunder from another candidate, in effect doing his advertising for him. More often than not, in the course of the media conversation that follows, people come to realize that he was right, or support him anyhow because they are sick of the politically correct garbage we've gotten from politicians for too many years now. For the most part, those who will never forgive him for whatever politically incorrect or vulgar thing he might have said will be someone who wouldn't have voted for him anyhow. Why would he care if he offends a Hillary supporter? It works for him, although we've yet to see whether it will carry him through.

I've noticed that, yes, @Ken Anderson . :) And I must say it's rather brilliant, isn't it? All you do after all the attention focuses your way is say "I didn't know that's what it means!" and no one can prove whether you did or didn't. I must say this is sure a lively election year... and promises to get even better.

Donald Trump with his intrepid statements truly fascinates romanticists. And why so? We are used to the promises of politicians that they seem to be on the positive side all the time, so afraid of talking against a group or a sector of society for those politicians are obviously after the votes. Now here comes a guy wiht his tongue and cheek remarks about Mexicans. That is a very strong statement to say that Mexicans are the rapists, the thieves, etc. But Trump said that for the sake of honesty and transparency.

Rodrigo Duterte is a presidential candidate here who talks like Trump. However, he went out of line when he cursed the Pope. You read it right, he said something like "Damn you, Pope, you are causing much traffic here" when the Pope came to the Philippines in January 2015.

Trump is only saying what the people are thinking and surveys have shown that the American don’t trust the government

It seems like you do not completely hear the things that Donald Trump is actually saying there in the Philippines, @Corie Henson , probably due to the different news sources that you have there. They only gave you a little bit of what he said, and it totally changed the meaning of his words.
What was actually stated by Trump was that the illegal aliens, who are coming in across the Mexican border into the United States, are committing many crimes such as murder and rape.
    This is absolutely factual !
Many of the illegals who sneak across the border are criminals in Mexico, or other Central American countries, and they continue their despicable ways when they are here.
Unfortunately, just sending them back across the border does not solve anything, since the southern border is so wide-open that they can just crawl back across the border again.
We also have many, many decent Hispanic people here in the United States, ones that love this country, and are good and hard-working people, and Donald Trump will be the first person to acknowledge this fact. He always points out that he has many nationalities of people employed in his different hotels and casinos.

Americans are very tired of having our homes robbed, our women raped/murdered, and fatal accidents caused by the illegal Hispanic drunk drivers who should not even be able to drive a vehicle. They apply for driver's licenses using stolen identity cards, and most of them cannot even speak English, let alone read the street signs.
Donald Trump was saying that these illegals need to be stopped, and most of us agree with that viewpoint.

@Yvonne Smith, I'm sorry if my post was not clear. You are right, it is not very clear. What I had wanted to post was about those illegal aliens. Maybe I was still sleepy, hahahaaah. And yes, I know that native Americans agreed with Donald Trump's statement about the crimes being committed by those illegals.

When my husband was in the US, a maintenance man in their office offered him a used car for $2,000. Since my husband was in need of a car, he was about to pay when his office mate cautioned him. Eventually that office mate intervened for my husband by asking for the papers of the car. The Mexican janitor couldn't produce any. And later he admitted that the car was stolen.

The problem is not so much one of ethnicity. Although many American citizens of Mexican origin are caught up in the race issues, many more are not. I am still in touch with many people who used to be my students, co-workers, and friends in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, all of whom are Hispanic, yet very few of them are in favor of uncontrolled immigration. That's because they work for a living, and they know that illegal immigration simply keeps wages down for everyone, hurting them as much (if not more) than others.

I think one of the vulgarities the writer referenced was when Trump told him he gets more p*ssy than the writer does. That is a vulgar statement. It's not so unusual in this day and age, but it is unusual coming from someone of Trump's standing, and as @Ken Anderson stated, it gets Trump a lot of press. It's no secret that many U.S. citizens are tired of the same old same old, being promised everything by these career politicians and then being sold down the river when the special interests call in their markers. It's time for the establishment politicians to wake up and see that their day is over, and if they want to keep their jobs, they need to actually represent those who have elected them.

Yes, it's true (for the record.) It was said to reporter Tucker Carlson, Trump was very much an adult (I think it was about 14-15 years ago. Now that said, (oh, I shouldn't admit this!) it was kind of funny because Carlson started it by saying something about Trump's hair... and that was a true Trump-like comeback. Terribly vulgar, but not worth a lost vote, methinks. ;)
