After the 1st of the year, I'll have $50k to play with that's not part of my IRA, Savings, or Checking. I was considering buying Gold Coins or Bullion with it, but of course I'll have to confer with my financial adviser, who may have something better for me to do with the money. Are any of you invested in Gold or Silver? Hal
If I had 50K to invest I'd hang onto it for dear life. That is to say the market is out there to take your money, sooner or later, and you seem to be ahead. Generally speaking a stock broker is not going to make you any money because he is too busy trying to make a living for himself. Now it could well be said, since you have 50K and I don't, that you are much smarter and stock savvy than I am, and therefore my advice, while freely given, is simply thrown out to be ignored. Still at your advancing age, caution should be utmost in your market-thinking mind. Perhaps you know this, know the market well, then this is the time when one must decide how much it is he is willing to lost.. Hope you make a million. Oh, by the way, I'd never invest in silver, and gold is most often over rated.
Thanks Bill...I'll be aware of the caution in your reply, while I do some online research on gold's performance! I've never played the Stock Market, and all I know is "Buy Low...Sell High" Hal
If I were to confess that I insulated my home with gold and silver, I'd be setting myself up for a home invasion, as well as some awfully disappointed invaders.
Why don't you just take a cruise around the world or do something really fun???? After a certain age, why invest when you can enjoy the spending while you are still physically able? My parents saved and invested their whole life and now they are too ill to even have fun with it. ENJOY yourself!!!
Bess...I was never one for Travel! The only place we traveled to in our 25-year marriage was the Grand Canyon, right next door in Arizona, and THAT was even too much driving, not to mention the nuisance of lodging and eating in a place that's not your home! I dislike almost any kind of adventure! Travel and Adventure are overrated...I prefer a staid life, friends! Ahhh...we still had a good time viewing the Canyon, though. "See the World" Hal (Barbie agrees)
Just remember you can't shred it up and take it with you when you go. Enjoy spending it as much as possible.
Do any of you have a large percentage of your holdings in the form of Gold Coin or Bullion? I'm thinking of including some Gold in mine. Hal
Very well. My Arizona Bachelor Brother-in-Law has become wealthy just from buying Gold Coins over the years. His portfolio consists of nothing but Gold! Hal
