My Biopsy Results Are Positive For Skin Cancers

I'm sorry to hear that @Lon Tanner . You sure have faced your share of illnesses.

 

Good luck, Lon. Seems like most surgeons just have the patient stop taking blood thinners a week or so before surgery, but I suppose they evaluate each patient for the best result.

 

I sure hope they heal fast!

Could you elaborate on your skin cancers as to where on your body they are and what alerted you to the possibility that they were skin cancers? It might help some members who also have had years of sun exposure like yourself. I have a few sensitive areas on my face which I'm assuming have not progressed to the cancerous stage. Best of luck with your treatment.

 

I had dime size itchy spot on my left temple and another on the right temple. One dime size itchy spot on upper back and another on lower back. My Dermatologist does a Full Body Scan on me every 6 months and he did a biopsy on each spot at that time. Results from the biopsies confirmed Basal & Squamous Cell Skin Cancers. They will be removed via a simple 5 minute radiation treatment over eight separate appointments. Fortunately they are not the more serious Melanoma Cancer.
I have had at least 15 separate skin cancers treated and removed in my 85 years. All due to sun exsposure.

 

Just saw my Oncologist this morning and after he reviewed the tests and scans told me I was in Partial Remission. This means my cancer is still detectable but stable.

 

Well that's good news for sure, Lon. Have a glass of wine to celebrate!

 

This will be one of many treatments that I have had in the past year. I have two spots of Basal Cell Cancer on my back. Before I started taking a Blood Thinner the doctor would just cut the Cancer out.

The two dime size Basal Cell Skin Cancers on my back required 15 separate 5 minute radiation treatments. Removing surgically would have been quicker but I take a Blood Thinner and my doc didn't want me bleeding. Today at 2 PM is one of the five appointments left. Temperature will be 103 F today.

Kind of odd that they didn't just have you stop the blood thinner for a few days and do the surgery, though.

 

The cardiologist would have to have me stop and he wanted me to continue.

 

Just had three biopsies this afternoon for more suspected skin cancers. The ones that were radiated are all healed.
