Well, it's been 3 years since I had a backyard pool. I promised my wife that I'd never want another one. I'm considering breaking my promise, because I want another one! Not like the previous types, with steel framework and liner...this time I'll get a small inflatable type...no assembly! My previous pools have been 14', 12', and 10'. This time I'll go for an 8' inflatable, which is just big enough to accomodate my 6' length on a floater. That's all..... Harold
Can’t you use the one from last year , @Hal Pollner ? You said you only used it for two months and then packed it back up because it was too much trouble for you to keep clean ?
@Yvonne Smith, thanks for posting my getting rid of my last pool because of the unfavorable Maintenance-to-Fun ratio. I'm glad that you save those old posts...they're helpful in the discussions at hand! The inflatable pools I'm seeing on Amazon require none of that maintenance! Their water volume is so small compared to my previous pools that after a few uses, they can just be drained and refilled, with no pumps, hoses, filters, sweeping, vaccuming, or chlorinating to be concerned with. I would still skim the surface daily, however. Now I've just got to chose one, from those models that have the best user reviews! Thanks, Yvonne...please send me a picture of you and Bobby! Hal
I ordered an inflatable pool today...it will arrive on July 10, just in time for my Birthday, the 11th! This one has 3 inflatable rings, and is 10' long, 6' wide (outer dimensions), and 22" deep. Roomy enough for me to relax on a float with a Rum & Coke! Amazon does it again! Hal
Oh, good. The birthday promos have begun. Enjoy your pool, Hal. My son bought one of those for my little granddaughter and she loves it.
Must be nice. I'm on a well, there's no way I'm draining my aquifer for one of those...gotta have water trucked in. Of course, in a week's time, that will be nothing but a warm tub.
i have owned 3 of these before: a 10', a 12' and a 14'. None of them were "air temp in no time flat"! Hal
If I remember right, the ones that you had before were a whole lot deeper, at least 32” deep, or more. Since this one is only a little over a foot deep, it will probably soak up the hot sun lot faster than the larger, deeper pools did. Also, you have always had a pump on the larger pools , which kept the water circulating. We had a little wading pool, about the same depth as you are getting, for the dogs to cool off in, and while it was not as long as yours is, it was about the same depth, and the sun warmed the water really fast. But, like you say, you can change the water every day if you need to, because it does not hold much water like your larger pools did. Here is the picture you posted before, and this pool looks like it was at least 48” deep, a lot different from what 22” will be.
Yes, Yvonne, that pool was 12' in diameter and 36" deep, but was filled to only 80% of its depth, or 30". The water was circulated by a pump while unoccupied, evening-out the temperature of the water. Yes, my new smaller pool will contain only 300 gallons of water, (2400 pounds), compared to 8500 gallons in the 12-footer, (68,000 pounds, or 34 tons). Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. So you and Mr. Brunner are absolutely correct, therefore I'll cancel my order from Amazon and go without a pool for an indefinite time...maybe never. Hal
Is the purpose only to cool off? Unless the temperature outside is above 98.6 it will still feel cool, won't it? And with evaporation, it will feel even cooler. Maybe put it in a place that will be sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon. Or vice versa, depending on when you plan to use it.
HEY JOHN BRUNNER, You joined us only a month ago..welcome aboard! I was born in Wheeling, West Virginia,18 years before you were! (I'll be 84 next month) We'll have fun exchanging posts, I think. Hal
