AARP has recently launched Fearless at 50, a campaign to celebrate the real people who are challenging outdated perceptions in our modern culture. What does it really mean to be 50 and over? The campaign aims to give the general public the perception of what the seniors are going through.

I barely remember being 50 reaching 70 was more a milestone, I am much less fearful now than when I was 50 and for one thing I seem to learn something new here every day, and my life experiences have become richer. Maybe a fearless at 80 campaign is needed

There are a lot of advantages of getting old especial in the way we look at life.
If a young person wants to pick a fight with me first I will tell him he cannot win and if he does defeat me he should be ashamed of himself for beating up an old man and if I win he will really feel terrible. If I get to talk to him first I will tell him that he has a life behind bars if he kills me and I will only have a few years until I die. He has a lot more to lose than I do.
When it comes to health we now are on the search for finding ways to become more healthy the younger group think they are bullet proof and care less about safety or health. My dad’s saying is why don’t these teenagers go out and become millionaires because they claim they are smarter than the older people.
One thing that older people have is the appreciation of life and trying to get the most out of it but the sad fact that every birth is one less year of life we have. We all should be planning to live to 120 years that is what they claim our genetic s will give us the only think is to get there without years of suffering.

I don't know ... living to 120 just doesn't sound that appealing to me. I'm not especially thinking of the health aspect of it, but the world in general ... how people have become on this overpopulated planet. All the strange things going on with attitudes to everything, more bizarre every year .... not something I want to see 50 more years of .. JMO

Yes Bonnie I do understand what you are saying, I have briefly touched at times over the past year or so a certain tiredness of life.
I have spent time over the past year with a couple of 90 year old friends who though they were not in pain and could get around ok, expressed a weariness of life and having had enough of it.
They both died shortly afterwards of no particular cause, just the body closing down, natural causes. I can imagine getting to that stage long before 120.

All I know is that at 50 I was still young and pretty fearless, now at 64 I feel a lot older mainly because my back hurts and I live alone and that makes me more careful and cautious. I don't want to fall alone in my house and lay there til my dog starts eating me. :)
It would probably take my daughter a day to realize something happened and call 911.

    So, 65 to 79 .... happy!
    Over 90 ... happy!

79-89 not the best of times ???

There used to be a TV show back in the 1950's in the states called Life Begins at 80 ... although back then maybe 80 was probably today's 90-100 ... lol
