Also in Brainerd, Minnesota . . . (???) . . . a man broke a world record by water skiing on 11-FOOT STILTS. The previous record was held by someone who skiied on 10-and-a-half-foot stilts. https://www.1079thefox.com/2020/07/21/a-man-broke-a-world-record-by-water-skiing-on-11-foot-stilts/
I see that Brainerd is one of 10 places claiming to be the birthplace of Paul Bunyan (3 of them being in Minnesota), but find no mention of a statue there. The first Paul Bunyan statue resides in Bernidji, MN.
Looks like the original is gone now... https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/6812 https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/10391 Maybe he was a victim of the statue police.
Either the anti-Blue Lives Matter crowd or PETA...or that anti-Canuk crowd. They don no their eestoree.
According to Wiki, here are the places claiming to be his "birthplace." Bemidji, Minnesota Akeley, Minnesota Brainerd, Minnesota Bangor, Maine Eau Claire, Wisconsin Oscoda, Michigan Ossineke, Michigan St. Ignace, Michigan Stevens Point, Wisconsin Wausau, Wisconsin Minsk,Belarus
I should have an affinity for Paul Bunyan then, as I was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Michigan, and now live in Maine. I've never been to Belarus, though.
I may have mentioned our standard vacation spot when we lived in Indiana was Muskegon State Park. But you were in the UP...probably a longer drive for you than for us.
I tell ya, when the hot & humid summers here drive me inside, I'd love to live further north. But I'm not up for the winters. I missed the Indiana snow as a relocated kid in Virginia, but not any more.
If I lived in an area where an ox that size did his business, I'd damn sure learn how to walk on stilts.
