Thanks Steve......I am still deciding on the vaccines..I agree on waiting and watching what side effects may be published for Covid. Seems the side effects often sound worse than the original problem though I understand why they have todo that.. I thought the Shingles vaccine was suppose to prevent the disease...
Joan... I wouldn't wait to get the shingles vaccine as you never know when it will hit you.. Should you get it without the vaccine, it will be a real nightmare with pain and discomfort and very very long in time... Otherwise it will be almost nothing at all.. As far as the corona virus vaccine goes, it could be another 6 or more months till one is available.. again, do you want to be one of the first to get the vaccine or perhaps wait till it is proven safe....
I am not a big vaccines person. I never get a flu shot. But the fear of shingles pushed me into getting the original vaccine and then the new one when it came out (I got the new vaccine in January of 2019.) I have a friend who got shingles in his mid 50s (a month after he retired from the postal service.) It was not pretty. The only reaction I had from the new vaccine was soreness at the injection site. That went away after a day or so. As has been said, the vaccine is no magic potion. It may only lessen the severity (although how does one really know how severe one's symptoms would otherwise have been?)
Nobody gets a mild case of the shingles if they didn't get the vaccine.. Every case isn't pretty and can last for an awful long time.. With the vaccine, (like I had) the case is extremely mild and very short...I had no reaction to the vaccine.. YOUR CHOICE !!!.... Do whatever makes you comfortable …. I did and I am not sorry.... I also get the flu vaccine every year for the past 40 years and I have never had the flu.... No reaction to the vaccine...
I don't know if I told you or not, but my case of shingles is all over..... FINISHED... It has been for a while but I think I forgot to mention it.. C'mon, for the few weeks that I had it, and a very mild case, don't tell me that taking the vaccine didn't help...
I shouldn't visit the Health topic in SoC. I had forgotten about shingles. I remember these oozing sores on my forehead. Glad that's over and done.
Steve..I did have the Shingles and never had the vaccine. Frankly I do not remember it as really bad..I know it was not pleasant but I honestly can't say it was terrible..lol .maybe I am blocking it from my memory. I just had it at my waist and can not image it on my face...yikes I am with you in waiting for the corona vaccine for safety
John Very true...and now I heard even if one had Shingles they can get it again..so I suppose I need to talk to my Dr and see if I should get the vacinne..it's been a few years since I had the outbreak So my next question is what about the flu vaccine.... .I'm thinking sometimes it .sure sucks to get old...and do not say the alternative is worse
Yikes Dwight...my belated condolences...that had to be awful ..What doesn't kill u makes you stronger?
Steve always gets the flu vaccine and he never gets the flu. I have never had a flu vaccine and I never get the flu. So, class, there's your Data Set. We're gonna divide into two groups. Group A: You'll be Off-The-Gridders Group B: You'll be Pfizer sales reps Each one of you make your best case for your position. Be sure to show your work
After a vaccine gave me Lyme disease my doctor ( the best one I've ever had ) told me never to get another vaccine. So, I guess I'm in group C.
Holy Crap! Can you educate me? I have never heard of a vaccine giving you Lyme disease. I worry about that...there are plenty of ticks where I live. Just so many lawn-meets-woods linear miles. And why not ever get another vaccine? wow.
Yeh, I've read some of that, but missed the Lyme disease post. No need to be ashamed of posting what's going on with you. I could have searched for myself, but I'm lazy that way. If I could snap my fingers and make it go away for you, it would already be a done deal.
I get the flu vaccine every year for the past 40 or more years.. I NEVER had the flu since I take the vaccine.. The vaccine is suggested to everyone in Ontario, free of course.. Actually everyone in Canada is suggested to get the flu vaccine.. I have NEVER had a reaction to the vaccine either.. Why not take it ?? Getting the flu isn't pleasant.. As far as shingles goes, yes I had the vaccine and that is why I had a very mild case of it.. The vaccine won't prevent you from getting shingles, but if you get it, it will be a very mild case with no blisters or pain.. If I hadn't had the vaccine, who knows how severe it might of been.. Again, why gamble ?? Just take as much protection as logical.. As far as the corona vaccine goes, I think I will wait till there is some kind of security to the results.. Meanwhile there has NEVER been a single case of the virus up in our area..
