I had a motorcycle and quit riding it after hitting black ice and sliding into a mail box on a steel pole. All 4 of my sons had bikes. my third who is 58 has 2 bikes(honda Glide and either a Suzki or Yamaha). His wife also has a Harley and his oldest son had some kind of Indian bike.
When I was 10 or 11 and my sister was in high school, she worked for a local jeweler in Vienna VA. This was their second store, the first one being in Middleburg VA (horse country with people who had "old money.") No one who lives in upscale, overcrowded Vienna these days would ever believe that there was a horse farm there, but these people had one. I forget why they boarded horses in two locations 50 miles apart, but they did. So I was over there one day and they put me on the back of a horse in a corral filled with jumping props: barrels, cross rails, etc. I had never been on a horse before, but the horse didn't care. It leapt every apparatus in that corral with me bouncing up when I should have bounced down, and [painfully] vice versa. I've never been on a horse since, not out of fear but for lack of opportunity.
It reminds me of the parents who teach their kids to swim by just throwing them in the water. You did well not to be bucked off and hurt. Hopefully, my first ride will be a little more sedate.
I decided to chase this down today and everything fell amazingly into place. Windy Way Horses is less than 15 miles from me. I'm scheduled for a lesson on Weds. at 12 noon. Brush the horse down, ride for a half hour, then brush down the horse again. $50. I'm a little fearful but not enough to stop me. I forgot to ask them if I could bring my six-guns and Winchester.
I'll be a masked man on a masked horse. Both of us bad guys. I shot the sheriff but I did not shoot the deputy.
This is mean but I'm going to do it anyway. It's my hypnotic suggestion that you'll have this song running through your head every day for years. Six Days On The Road - Dave Dudley
