Candy Bar? If it were a man who visits 3 bars, the chances of one of them being called Candy Bar, a strip bar on the corner of Apple and Cell stands fairly reasonable unless of course the bar fly had not paid the full charge on his bar tab and had been previously barred.

Last night texting daughter and asked her about the debt relief program she signed up for. Within five minutes I had email for debt relief info. Then four more! It's not about hiding its about not being able to look and search or talk about something without Google knowing you're every b move. Have changed browsers for now and looking for ways to rid myself of them.

It first hit me about 5 years ago when I went to all antenna tv. I started watching old tv shows on those Classic TV stations and looking up some of the personalities of that era on my laptop as I watched. I was reading about Johnny Carson, and the next thing you know I'm getting ads for DVDs of Tonight Show episodes! I've since noticed it for lots of other items I might have looked at on line.

Changing browsers doesn't seem to help. I've got Firefox. I think a big part of it is the sites that might be loaded. This problem was way worse when Yahoo was my home page and was always loaded when my browser was open. They are a HUGE offender. I no longer go on Yahoo, I use DuckDuckGo as my search tool and I still have this issue.

Regarding having text messages monitored...that is way more than merely intrusive!!! That's not a browser issue. Google developed the Android (cell phone) operating system. That story I recounted of the guy having his movements captured when his phone was turned off had nothing to do with a browser.

It's infuriating. You can say that having this stuff is voluntary, but so was having a land line or sending letters. I doubt that anyone would have defended the phone company's eavesdropping and taking notes, or the post office copying our letters.

I am a firm believer in the benefits of cell phones. Always have mine in my pocket. Not on the car seat, dashboard,or glove box.
My brother is a scrapper, he was salvaging from a burnt barn. A wall collapsed on him. He laid pinned under that wall for ten hours before the guy that owned the place wondered why he was taking so long and went to check on him. Spent a few days in intensive care and the a week or so in hospital. It.s amazing the fluids that come out of your body when you have crushed a bruised organs. He said the worst part that was as he laid there, he knew his cell phone, his life line was on the dashboard of his truck just fifty feet away.Cell phones are amazing technology.

Along those same lines, I have owned Fitbit fitness trackers for the past 4 or 5 years. Last year, Google bought Fitbit and so began the downward spiral. At least a dozen times a day if I open the Fitbit app on my phone, it nags me to "Turn on Location Services!" Uh, no. Google does not need to know my whereabouts at all freakin' times. (Even though I haven't left my own yard in over 4 months. :D) I have location services turned off on my cellphone, too... I'll decide if Apple needs to know where I am.

    Agreed.

I am 1/2 mile off the paved road with no one to check on me. I could be one of "those" stories.

When I go outside to do any work of any type, I always have my cell phone with me. It's my ubiquitous Panic Button.

Glad your brother's OK. It's the stuff of paranoid nightmares...

Hearing on my phone was one thing i didn't like about mine, hearing on it was difficult ( of cours it is difficult anyway (with or without a phone). Our land line is slightly better but I have difficulty heaing some people on it.

Amen, my friend. Alexander didn't have a clue what his invention would do to us old folks ;-). However, my wife of 58 years is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's, bedridden. With the virus we can no longer visit. So I bought two flip phones and she calls me several times each day. It's the best we have.

If I were you I'd give that old phone a shot and see what happens.
