You know, I saw a recent survey that said 53% of current university students support free speech, 53%. That is a bare majority. A marked change from just a generation ago when almost everybody supported the freedom of speech. Once this right falls out of favor with a large amount of Americans, the courts will then act and, I think, will begin to restrict the freedom of speech.

What infuriates/worries me about all this are all the little bastards out there who can't wait to patrol these new laws and turn in anyone they dislike. Sadly, people like that will never realize where their intolerance of others truly starts.

If hate does become formally illegal, knowing and telling the facts about a controversial topic will become an act of hate. The end of reason and the republic is coming. I sound pontifical, but it's really that serious.

Neither is true.They are both extreme and unrealistic viewpoints. Truth has a small 't' and is something that can never be discovered in an Ultimate Explanation. It is found in bits and pieces and must be constantly pursued without hope of reaching a final destination. The radical left's agenda has all the worst earmarks of any of the religions they profess to disbelieve and despise. Their goal of a world of soulless men enslaved and governed by other soulless men is their religion. In the end their agenda is a faith, a bad faith, as Sartre would say.

And look at what happened when "Occupy" swept across this country illegally squatting in public parks, and what is happening now with riots and arson everywhere. Radicals are in charge so Radicals get a free pass, to include rape, arson rioting and looting. Government has shut down churches in reaction to a virus but permit those same humans to congregate as "protesters." It's happening right now, and nothing is being done.
Successful enforcement may not be the goal. In Europe, such laws actually increase the incidence of hatred for minorities and violence against them. That leads to the state siding with and protecting the minority, giving the minority more power in and over the state. I don't know if I entirely understand the process but that's my take.

The minority they protect is not a racial minority but the minority of elites in power. I read somewhere that a teacher was recently fired for posting online one line; "Donald Trump is our president." or something close to that. He was guilty of dissent (hate speech) for stating a simple fact.
