Just like the U.N. Human Rights Commission putting the worse offenders in charge.
They're so stupid they must be genius.

Regarding defunding the police, the Minneapolis City Council crapped their collective drawers when crime started to skyrocket, and are reversing course.

They cut funding in the middle of a budget? Very unusual. Funds that have already been committed moved? I find reference that due to resources being allotted to the disturbances, police presence has been weak ,and crime has increased in the city. Has nothing to do with any so called "Defunding"
If they are going to split the pot differently, "defunding" it will come with the new budget, not before.
Well I am wrong, city council voted to reallocated 1.1 million dollars from the police department to the health department to fund mental health responders. The Police Department budget is 193,million. Hardly a defunding!

Can you hit me with a link to that, Peter? If it's a nonsensical position, I'll not repeat it.

Even local Minneapolis rags talk as though there's a causal effect, but all I can find on real numbers is someone in another forum citing it. Nothing with real figures from at least a "real" news source.

    Thanks...

Sorrry I can't pin it down. I looked at a few articles. However I googled "Minneapolis crime skyrockets". Most or the articles were talking about the rise in crime in general terms, however I did find the one that asserts that there just isn't the manpower to police both the demonstrations and regular crime prevention. The Min PO has 888 officers with 100 of them on leave of one sort or another. The article did have a photograph of a new class of officers although it did not give a number.
I still maintain that the phrase "defunding the police",has become weaponized, and does not mean starving the police out as the right wing would have you believe.
Taking 1.1 mill from 193 mill budget is hardly draconian.
Why the push back anyway? (Not from you,but in general) seems to me that what we have had has problems. If a small portion of funds is dedicated to a pilot project of mental health responders, what is the harm?
It is calld moving forward being progressive. Try it track it and if there are poor results scrap it.

I'll see if I can find it.

But I will say that both sides are weaponizing this. If the figures are truly close to 1%, then how could the Minneapolis City Council throw it as red meat to those who hate cops as though this is a major step to abolishing their police department? And how can they backtrack on it as a response to skyrocketing crime? Lots of misdirection going on.

It's telling that no outlet is putting forth specifics. I could not find the figures anywhere. You would think that someone, somewhere would point out the intellectual dishonesty.

Regarding what the government's role is in "preventing crime" in a free society...maybe I'll start a different thread so we don't derail this one.

Yesterday, they arrested six people for an attempt at kidnapping Michigan Governor Whitmer. President Trump called and talked to her about the fast law enforcement response to this, but apparently the governor is actually blaming Trump (or trying to) for the attempted kidnapping.
This is again an attempt to say that President Trump does not denounce fear-right extremist groups, which we all know that he has always done.

I haven’t heard too much about all six of them, but here is a video from one of the leaders, and he obviously hates Trump, law enforcement, and any form of government.
He has videos on YouTube that are against the Constitution and any kind of law enforcement. He claims that the Declaration of Independence is an anarchist document.
He is definitely not a Republican, or any kind of a Trump supporter, and actually looks like most of the antifa people we see in videos. His name is Brandon Caserta, and you can look him up on YouTube .

Edit to add:, since the video has now been removed from YouTube (although I am sure that there are other copies of it elsewhere if you look, I saw it first on Twitter), here is the link to the Dan Bongino website and quotes what was said on the video.

It's not so much him getting blamed as it is avoidance (and lying about) the real issues.

This man was behind the attempted kidnapping of Michigan's governor, and instead of focusing on that, this egregious act is being prostituted by our "leaders" into something to undermine our president.

Nancy Pelosi is trying to pass a bill to form a "commission to study" the 25th Amendment of the Constitution (deals with issues related to presidential succession and disability. ) Apparently the steroids Trump was given at Walter Reed render him incompetent to govern.

These are not honest disagreements. It is open sedition.

Yet another distraction and a total waste of taxpayer money, time and manpower. The 25th Amendment is pretty much straight forward and in truth, doesn’t need a commission or even an interpretation by the Supreme Court.
Nancy P is just trying to distract from a real issues which at this time, is that she won’t allow any kind of stimulus payment to leave the House without her pork in it.

If most citizens knew that whilst Nancy may have a few t’s crossed and i’s dotted, she doesn’t have the support from the Vice President and D. Trump’s cabinet which she has to have in order to even start the process. And lastly, even if everything was aligned, it still has to go through the Supreme Court.
And, if most citizens knew that if D. Trump was given some type of Corticosteroid (if he was given any at all) they are nothing even remotely like the debilitating stuff some athletes employ.

Now, as far as the kidnapping attempt, I’m not at all too sure it isn’t just another Jussie move that went wrong. Even though they have a guy posting stupid stuff on YouTube and other venues on the net doesn’t mean that the good Michigan Governor doesn’t have her fingers in the pie somehow.

They've removed your video. Here's another, maybe along the same lines. I'm not sure because I didn't see the first.

Very strange. The anarchist Caserta is being confused in other videos with a Navy Seal candidate by the exact same name who committed suicide not long ago. Oddly, the Seal Caserta's last name is being pronounced Consert'o'. I don't know what's going on.

That is by the same guy, and I watched this one, too.
You can see that he is an anarchist from what he says; but the one that they removed specifically said that he believed that Trump was bad. Naturally, that statement does not fit in with the narrative that they are trying to shape about this incident, and it makes it harder to blame the President when the kidnappers denounce Trump, as well as any law enforcement.
Trump supporters all wave flags and most support the police, so this guy certainly does not fit the mold for Trump patriots.
Just as aside, most Trump followers do not mutilate their ears like this guy did, either.

A local news report on the Wolverine Watchmen shows a poster on a tree which reads:
    Warning
Due to an increase in the price of ammo
do NOT expect to get a warning shot.

    Kinda funny.
Imho, Trump should not have said "Stand back and stand by." It sounds like a tacit endorsement even if he didn't mean it as such.

When President Trump was asked it he condemned white supremist groups, he said yes, he does. He said it TWICE, if you listen to the video of the debate when they asked him this.
It is extremely hard to even hear what he says with both Biden and Wallace talking overtop of Trumps answer, so I can see why someone would have not been able to actually hear what the president said. (Pretty sure that his was deliberate, it was well coordinated)
Then Biden refers to the Proud Boys, which is certainly NOT any kind of white supremicist group, since a lot of their members are black , Hispanic, or even Asian.
They are simply a pro-American group and their requirement is just that you are born a male, and not be a transgender one.
I am not even sure why this group was brought up. I haven’t ever seen them marching, protesting or anything similar, let alone doing any violence or rioting like the leftist antifa and BLM people are doing.

Can you explain why the president should not have said what he did , in your opinion, @Dwight Ward ?
I am not seeing any issue with his statement, since he has always condemned ANY kind of violent or racist groups, all of the time he has been in office.
What is the problem with a group of guys of mixed races, if they are not causing any trouble or hurting anything ?

Yvonne, the media are certainly not going to educate the public about the Proud Boys and why they aren't white supremacist. Biden brought them up as an example supremacist group and that is what they will remain in the public mind. Trump should have known he was being baited. He should not have used the language that he did. I don't think Trump is racist but this one incident is enough to convince many people he is.
