@Lon Tanner If Lymphedema is the same thing as edema caused by kidney failure, yes I had it big time. Only not swole up with excess lymph, but rather poisons not removed by the kidneys. Extremely uncomfortable, legs felt like dragging logs, hands like grapefruits, feet and calves like fat sausages,. Frank
I had a neighbor who had lymphedema after her mastectomy. She was absolutely miserable, but it did disappear. In your case, Frank, don't you undergo dialysis? The poisons should be removed per that treatment. Sorry to read this as I've seen other cases and I know the patients are very uncomfortable.
@Terry Coywin The edema was slowly increasing before I knew of the kidney failure. It was being treated by high-powered "water-pill" ineffectively. Dialysis reduced swelling to normal size fairly quickly. Body's tolerance to having it's blood transported in and out was at first difficult; diarrhea, vomiting, the techs were amazingly tolerant! Lymphedema refers to swelling that generally occurs in one of your arms or legs. Sometimes both arms or both legs swell.Lymphedema is most commonly caused by the removal of or damage to your lymph nodes as a part of cancer treatment. It results from a blockage in your lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system. The blockage prevents lymph fluid from draining well, and the fluid buildup l…
I have just started wearing a Compression Sleeve on my left arm & hand and compression socks up to the knee on both feet. The left arm swells from Lymphaderma and the feet from Peripheral Neuropathy.
Neither, I wear Dickies. No circulation problems, no foot problems other than a corn or two that I’ve had to work on. Matter of fact, after about a month in country (Vietnam) I didn’t wear socks or drawers at all and continued that until around 1980. In the Nam, my feet (and other things) dried quicker without the added material and I just got used to not wearing them way into civilian life.
Lon, how did you get lymphedema? Have you had lymph nodes removed? Sorry you are having to deal with that.
I have Lymphedema in the left arm and leg which causes large swelling and pressure from Lymph Fluid that is not disbursed properly. The Lymphedema is not painful and wearing the sleeves is not uncomfortable. I wear one sock and one sleeve. Putting on the one compression sock takes a real effort with hands and fingers that are no longer flexible. My Lymphedema is not Diabetes related, it's cancer related.
Yes, on peripheral neuropathy and things like trigeminal neuralgia, posttherapy neuralgia, and atypical MS from myelin sheath damage. It is atypical because the brain damage has been stable since my early 50s. To be MS it would have to be progressive and I would either be dead now or wish I was. I do have a rheumatic disorder that isn't arthritic to any extent, so not rheumatoid arthritis, but sure isn't pleasant. The specialist says none of this will kill me, but it may make me a cranky old lady before I reach 90.
