I have a 3G Tracfone and it's still useable like it always was. I added 90 days recently so it had better work.
Apple is supposed to be coming out with a flip-phone for iPhone at some point in the future, probably because others have. I am still using an iPhone 7, although my wife is on a 10, I think. She uses her phone, though, and I rarely even answer mine when someone calls. A flip-phone makes sense to me because I'd prefer carrying my phone in my pocket.
You might check out the new iPhone SE, which is a very small version of the iphone, like the earlier models (4-5) were. the screen is only 4.7”, so smaller than your 7 for carrying in your pocket.
I let mine expire and they wouldn't renew me. I tried to add another year. Just as well My battrery was about gone and I was having trouble hearing on it. A sales person online cwho sold phones used by Tracfone told me they were no longer suoporting 3G when they expired. Maybe not, but I can't buy that same phone. The only thing I hated was losing my almost four thousand minutes. What phone do you have?
Just another data point for you folks. Verizon stopped activating 3g phones the beginning of 2018. Their networks will no longer support the technology at the end of this year (2020.) Same goes for AT&T. Cricket plans to end 3g service "by early 2022." Technically that could be as soon as tomorrow, but seems to be not much later than the end of next year. Link

Hey, Von. It would seem so, but people should talk to their specific carrier about that just to be certain. I have an old flip phone I 'll be asking Verizon about. From what I understand, those phone will plain not work as the bandwidth they currently occupy gets reclaimed to carry additional 4g and 5g traffic.
Some new smart phones now have their battery as part of the phone itself. So when the battery is done so is the phone. I just bought a cell phone from Amazon it is blu it seem to have good capability for little money it is also unlock so I am not tied to a certain service supplier. Sometime a name brand is only selling its name and nothing more. Have fun on your search for your phone.
I have an Alcatel One Touch with 2,400 minutes on it. I expect Tracfone will send me a text when it's time to upgrade.
Dang, I thijnk that's what I had. Large letters. What \ever i had they don't offer it for sale any longer. I just waited dtoo long to renew, thinking I could get along okay with the land line.
My hubby has a trac fone flip that still works. Only for emergencies. They made me get an android that I use seldom. I had to replace it with another one after it dropped into the toilet. But power outages are why I have kept my old landline from AT and T. It is expensive and can only make local calls but anyone can call in from anywhere. There are a lot of things I don't like about technological advances and I may bury my phone in the back yard because 'they' can track us all of us and listen in to everything we say, phone on or not. I don't say or do anything that evil but it is none of 'their' business. I have no smart appliances or tv's. Like was said previously, having the speaker feature on would help hearing issues.
I, too, keep a landline. In my area, Verizon is the carrier. Verizon also has an oxymoron called "wireless landline" service, meaning it's transmitted wireless and feeds the phone lines in your house so that you talk on the legacy desk sets. They push this because maintaining the old physical phone lines are so expensive. One day the cell tower near me was out, so I had no cell phone or internet service (I use Verizon wireless internet.) I called Customer Service from my land line, and while I was on the call, the Rep tried to talk me into converting my physical landline into a "wireless landline." I had to remind her of which line we were speaking on and the reason for my call.
After all has been said and done, I have decided not to get another cell phone. It has proven to be to big a hassle.
I'll just throw this out there. Any mobile phone can call 911, even if it's not associated with any carrier or network. So you can keep a cellphone around that's not on an active account and use it for 911 emergencies. Of course, it must be charged and you must be getting a cell tower signal. Keep in mind that (a) there is no number for the 911 operator to call you back on because there is no active account, and (b) you'll still need 4g or better, since 3g will no longer physically be able to communicate, no matter what the reason.
