I sometimes think that bluebirds are overrated....but that is not the case with blueberries. Blueberries are one of the only natural foods that are truly blue in color. we love them, in almost every form. I like to sprinkle fresh blueberries on top of pancakes, before I flip them. I also like blueberry pie filling on top of pancakes. We have discovered Betty Crocker's Wild Blueberry muffin & quick bread mix, and use it to make bread. It is fantastic! I decided, It will be my specialty and made my first loaf yesterday. It is quick & simple, with a can of small blueberries in the box. Our other find was Smucker's Simply Fruit.... Blueberry Spreadable Fruit. It comes in small jars, but delivers a big blueberry thrill! I have stocked up on it and really pile it on a piece of toasted Italian bread. WOW! So, there you have it....three Blueberry Thrills to try before you go off bird watching!
@Joe Riley Blueberries are truly wonderful, in my book! I wanna try that Betty Crocker mix, if my wife will allow me to buy it. She is most insistent now about carbs, but I eat indiscriminately, like the fabled little mammal known as a Glutton. So-named due to it's gluttonous eating habits. "Whether eating live prey or carrion, the wolverine's feeding style appears voracious, leading to the nickname of "glutton" (also the basis of the scientific name)." MMM, blueberries! Whether it's bread, muffins, pie plain from the produce dept. they are healthy to eat always. Luckily for us we have them in many different forms to enjoy whenever we like. They come frozen, pre packed or fresh. I haven't yet tried them in preserves, but hopefully they come in sugar free mode, so I can eat them at will!
Blueberry Hill - Elvis Presley From the soundtrack of the 1957 movie "Loving You", the song was recorded on January 19, 1957.
Blueberries are among my favorite fruits. I like them as they come or in pies or in pretty much anything else that it makes sense to add blueberries too, my only complaint being that some people feel the need to add so much sugar to them that they lose their good blueberry taste. The same is true of cherry pies.
We have a couple of church yard sales every year. A couple of women in the neighborhood make their own jams & jellies to sell there. I'm still working on a jar of blueberry preserves I bought there. It's good stuff. I bet blueberries have dyed many miles of fabric over the years.
