I had a Cortizone shot today to relieve arthritic pain in my left shoulder.
(The syringe had 3 different medications in it!)

After the Doctor gave me the shot, I asked him when he was going to give me the shot.

    He laughed.

Next will come my right knee, and possibly some therapy sessions.

I thought 84 was too young to acquire these problems!o_O

Hope the shots help, Hal. I had the cortisone shot in my shoulder years ago for a rotator cuff injury.

    You are welcome.
Asking you again: why Oberleutnant, Hal? Aren't you laying it on a bit thick? If my memory doesn't play me false, you said your were specialist, corporal or sergeant, weren't you? :D

I hade calcium deposits in my shoulder. Doc told me that he could give me cortisone, and I would sing his praises to the moon. But I would be back in a year looking for another.or he could actually treat the problem.
Had ultrasonic treatment much as they would break a kidney stone. Took a while, several months, but I never had it again. bout thirty years

    Jawohl, Herr Stearn!
I was a Specialist 4, same rank as a Corporal, but I like to joke around and indulge in self-aggrandisement! Actually, I took the test in Basic Training and qualified to go to OCS, but I turned it down because it would add time to my tour of duty.

I got it, Hal @Hal Pollner . As for self-aggrandisement, in a dictatorship self-effacement is sometimes a smart and necessary strategy.
Funnily, I had also qualified for OCS but in order to avoid that career and not to spoil other career opportunities at an early age, I said to the officer in the interview that I wouldn't trust myself to go there because I didn't consider myself intellectually capable of doing such a demanding job. He was kind of puzzled but could't prove the opposite.
(PS: It should have been "you said you were..." in my last post, of course.);)

In 2005, I got a cortisone shot in my right hip. There was very little cartilage in the hip, so it was basically bone-on-bone. The shot was to try and avoid a hip replacement, but the shot didn't work. Ended up having the hip replacement done.

Next, will be asking my VA doctor and/or a Medicare doctor about getting a cortisone shot in my left shoulder. In 2007, had rotator cuff surgery in the shoulder and now there is daily osteoarthritis in it. I would like to stop taking (daily), an 800mg ibuprofen, and, on a every-other day basis, a 50mg Tramadol.

I got a hip replacement and praise the day! I put it off for sooooooooo long being a bit of a chicken. Now I have one good leg. I fell cutting wood (funny and bad story) and injured the hip and a shoulder. I got a book on healing your own rotator cuff on amazon, did the exercises and fixed the shoulder myself. (I am just a bit stubborn) Book is still on sale if anyone wants to try. I got shots in my knee, hip and spine. None seemed to help.

I should like very much to know the title of that book.

Proud of ya for wanting to get off the pain meds Cody. Pain has to be treated by getting to the cause which I understand you are trying to do.
The underlying side affects of pain meds, even continual use of Ibu’s and Acitaminophen can do more damage than a person starts with.
