I have had no one in my family or friends test positive, however here at Assisted Living we have had two residents this past year test positive and two staff members. Everyone wears masks all the time and follow safe distancing rules. I have had a staff member take my temp and pulse twice a day for the past several weeks.
No. The only remote contact was a home health-care worker who sees my mother-in-law a few times a week. She tested positive and was on leave while quarantined, though she had no symptoms of the virus.
I did know 2 people who died from it. One of my son's best friends has it. He is very, very sick but not dead yet. Hopefully, he will recover. He became sick with it Monday, November 23. He tested positive Tuesday, November 24. He and my son spent all day Saturday, November 20 together. They were outside so my son wasn't in close contact with him. My son seems to be OK.
Yes. My son-in-law about 3 weeks ago. Fortunately, my daughter did not get it from him. He is a fire-fighter and roomed with a fellow in his station, but they were on a trip to Texas, and both are in excellent shape, but back home later both tested positive. In fact they were on a firefighter team competing in a fitness contest (you know, running up and down steps, ladders, etc. while being timed.) He more or less shook it off, just had a temperature for 2 days, stayed away quarantined in a room above their garage for a week (and got retested negative later), which had all the necessary components - bath, cot to sleep on, etc. I can't figure this out. My wife and I are super careful, take all the necessary precautions, wring our hands, worry, and stay in contact with our friends who are all worried like we are. How can some just seem to have a mild case of something like a bad cold, and then we hear about so many who are not able to survive it. Your guess is as good as mine - it just shows that there are still a lot things we don't know yet about this darn virus. Its way beyond my limited medical knowledge to understand.
That's because immune systems are different. You might also wonder why some people get cancer and others don't. When I was down with swine flu with a high temperature for a week and felt like being on the verge of dying my wife didn't contract it although we didn't take any particular safety precautions like sleeping in different rooms. One example regarding covid: Doctors discovered that covid infections were often more severe in the western part of the country than in the east. Among other things they found out that tuberculosis shots that were mandatory in the east now have a positive influence on how serious covid may be. Blood groups also make a difference as does the shape of the whole immune system.
For me, I'm thankful for all the technology we have. We can stay at home and find out so much all around the world. We can even go there, by photos, if not in person, and we have the benefit of google to look at places, and we have programs like Zoom to talk to friends. Just think, back if 1936 (I think about the time you were born), we had to have a globe to see where everything was. Even President Roosevelt did not know where every country was. That year the army donated a map to him so he could find where the countries were.
I too am thankful for the technology available to us. It has made growing older easier and enjoyable.
Well, remember the very rich guy was tested four times in one day. (he's in the news daily I think). Two times, the test was positive. Two times, the test was negative. That is a higher percentage of 'right' results than in Wuhan, where they said 80% were wrong/ false positives.
No medical knowledge needed. Just be honest. Look for honesty (it is very rare). For instance, testing positive may mean nothing. Testing negative may mean nothing. (this in the news all year). More recently, again seen, verified, (I guess) >> Elon Musk on Twitter: "Something extremely bogus is going on ... twitter.com › elonmusk › status Nov 12, 2020 — Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid antigen test from BD. ============================================================== Elon Musk has more than a little money. Other people with less money have had the same experience. If someone in a home or hospital tests positive today, that is one case. Right? Yet, tomorrow, if they test positive again, THAT is TWO cases (the way they count). If they test positive five days in a row, THAT is FIVE cases counted (for their numbers). If they test positive AND negative, every day for five days, THAT is FIVE cases counted. (that's what they do) In the news all year - most people if they test positive, have NO symptoms. (they're not harmed nor in danger at all). Most people are in NO danger from the flu , nor a cold, nor the popular virus theory today. If they do not get tested, they do not contribute at all to the false positive high rate of virus numbers. If they do get tested, it doesn't matter if they have the virus or not..... it will be used for statistics promoting something....
It may not be a huge issue but we have other threads to discuss various aspects of the virus, while this thread was started specifically to seek answers to the question of whether anyone in a member's circle of friends and family members has tested positive for the virus, so if we can use one of the other threads to discuss other aspects of the virus, that would be more orderly. As this continues, it may well be that others who we know will test positive for it, so that might be of interest.
