I have a 2008 Chrysler. Excellent car and since I taught in The Bronx I "didn't see the need to get a newer one". Lately is giving me some problems. I think I will move to Maine.
Until very recently, my daily driver was a 1990 Volvo (my other vehicle is a 2005 pickup I try to save for "pickup truck" uses.) . I loved that car. And the property taxes & insurances were cheap. It was less than 200 miles shy of turning 200,000 when a deer jump out in front of it, damaging it beyond reasonable economic repair. Otherwise, I'd still be driving it today. This is insane when the minimum living standard is defined as "comfortably middle class" while others pay for it. All incentive to "do better" is completely undermined.
^^ THIS. For heaven's sake, that is the crux of the matter. (And I finally got to use 'crux' in a sentence. ) Every good parent knows this fact; a kid doesn't appreciate anything if he hasn't earned it himself.
Don't move to Maine unless you're willing to move to northern Maine. The south is a liberal shit hole.
And as you know as a parent, that's how you build independence and a "sense of self." I was just having this conversation yesterday. It is nothing less than the murder of souls. I don't need to elaborate...we all know the drill.
The Governor of Maine's promise will never be a reality; is nothing more than a way to get people on her side (votes). Is one more Socialist strategy.
@Silvia Benoit The connection between Maine and less car problems eludes me.........unless you plan to "hole-up" like our Admin! Frank
@Beth Gallagher I would love to see you use the word APEX in a post! "Crux" reminds me too much of "crutch", that universal support utilized physically as well as mentally (from "above"). Frank
And to all of the universities that are in Southern Maine, with kids who, I am sure, vote in both their home state and in Maine.
Well Maine used to be part of Massachusetts so a lot of the people even though they're dead still have the Mass culture in their veins
