I don't drink alcoholic eggnog, but I like a glass or two of eggnog at Christmas. It would certainly be a seasonal thing because I don't like it enough to want to drink it year-round.
My Coffee Fools adventure coffee this month was their Eggnog Royale, and oh-my-goodness, it is SO delicious ! I added just a tiny bit more pumpkin pie spice to the coffee pot when I made my morning coffee, and when I tasted it, it tastes almost the same as when I have actually used eggnog instead of cream in my coffee. I think that this might be the best flavor yet, in the ones that I have tried from Coffee Fools flavored coffees.
I was at the grocery store earlier and noticed the eggnog was in. I picked up a quart of Borden and just had a small juice glass of it. I must say... gack. It was much sweeter than I expected and toooooo nut-meggy or something. I poured most of it down the drain; it just wasn't like I remembered. I even tried to "cut" it with some plain milk. So if my husband doesn't like it, that was a total waste of money. But maybe I should try that eggnog pie recipe.
I wonder if they changed their recipe? Borden is usually reliable, but now that milk stays good for 2-3 months, who knows how that will affect the taste of all other dairy products.
Beats me; I always buy Borden products... I like Elsie. Maybe my taste buds are changing like everything else.
I was thinking about holiday foods from the other thread, and then it reminded me that one of my favorite holiday foods is soon going to appear in the stores again soon.......... EGGNOG ! ! I love eggnog. I love it plain. I love it in my coffee. It might even be good in tea..... I have never tried, but I might do that this year.
YES ! We have eggnog ! Lots of eggnog, actually. I ordered my groceries from Walmart today, and I ordered a half gallon of eggnog. When they sent me the message about substitutions, they said they were out of the half gallon, but were sending me the quart instead. (I think they meant to say they were sending me TWO quarts instead.) Anyway, when we got home and I was putting the groceries away, it turned out that they had given me FIVE quarts of eggnog ! I have no ides how they came to that conclusion, or they forgot and did it twice, when they were doing the replacement........ who knows.......anyway, we have lots of eggnog for the whole Christmas season, and Bobby is using some of it in his custard. I am really starting to like the shopping online and picking up at the store, it works for most things. I am now happily having a fresh cup of coffee with eggnog and a little extra nutmeg.....oh, so good.
Yummy. My dad loved eggnog and he made it during the holiday season. (He included lots of "nog." ) Have you tried frothing it, Yvonne?
I have not tried frothing it yet, @Beth Gallagher . Bobby already asked me if I was going to do that, and I am definitely going to try it and see if it will froth. The idea seems like a good one !
We made eggnog when I was a kid. I recall that I liked it OK, but not enough to make in my adult years.
