I have been experimenting eating desert before my meal and in the middle of the meal as well as at the end of my meal. What I discovered is that desert is good no matter when consumed and has no negative consequenses. I remember desert as a reward for eating my vegetables when I was a kid.

I like to have something sweet with my coffee an hour or two after dinner.

Before someone else indelicately points it out, you mean "dessert" with two esses, not a expanse of sand.

Once again you have caused me to do a little research, and "dessert" is derived from a French word for "to clear the table." In other words, it's a dish eaten after the table is cleared. And as you state, it's a bribe to get a kid to eat something he otherwise would be inclined to pass on.

That being said, I'm with Beth...I like something sweet after I eat with a cup of coffee. Even a piece of candy will do.

    You know I'm teasing.

And good for you for eating your own food in any daggone order you want!!!

You bring to mind something I learned when I got into making Chinese food. They eat soup at the last course. It's basically the scraps of whatever the meal was made with, simmer into a broth so as not to waste anything. And according to WIKI:

I think the government should force everyone to eat desert.

Separate from any meal at home. I've never ordered a dessert with a meal at a restaurant.

When I was a kid my Mom always let me eat my dessert first (when we had dessert, we didn't have dessert every day), but made my 5 siblings wait until after they finished their dinner.

Sounds like I was spoiled and my moms favorite but it wasn't like that at all.
She said she never had any problem getting me to eat all of my veggies and other healthy foods so she let me choose when I wanted to eat what.

I always have and still do love every kind of vegetable and eat plenty of them!!

I read that eating sugar (such as desserts) and protein at the same time, or at least one soon after the other, helps to prevent the blood sugar spikes and other physical changes caused by sugar.

Once in a while, we will have an actual dessert after a meal but not usually. Mostly, if I am going to eat a dessert item it will be between meals, given that we generally eat two regular meals a day. On the rare occasion that I order a dessert with a meal at a restaurant, it will be to take home.

That is definitely true for me. I can't do sugar (even with simple carbs, like pancakes) on an empty stomach in the morning without protein. Ten minutes later, get the shakes, racing heartbeat. But once it starts I can make it quit in a minute or so by eating even more sugar. o_O:confused:

I guess your statement means what it says...but are you saying that you have never ever had dessert at a restaurant?

You have to at least go to an Italian restaurant and order spumoni (it's an ice cream.)

No, I've gone to places just for their desserts. It's just that there's always so much food at restaurants, I never had room for dessert. :p
