There are some really interesting pictures , videos, and information coming out about what is going on at the Capitol right now. There are thousands of National Guard troops (some people say 20,000) and they are all camped out at the capitol building. You would think that there was someplace to house this many troops , and just have the ones they need at the capitol ? New reports are showing military helicopters coming into DC, also. I thought that Biden has been saying that he is having a virtual inauguration, and all of the bleachers were dismantled, he said no parade; so if all of it is virtual, why all of the military protection there ?

Do you think it may be "staged"? For show ? (both or all sides for their own reasons) As well as may be needed at a moment's notice any time now....
The 82nd Airborne Div. (my old unit) has been deployed and held outside the city so it’s serious. The 82nd is NEVER used unless there’s a very very good reason for it.
I don’t think that it is just for show, @Jeff Elohim . Biden has planned a virtual ceremony, so if that actually comes to pass, no one would even be there that needed protection, or whom he might need protection from. All of the Trump supporters are passing the word around not to go to DC for any reason, not that they would go there to see Biden anyway. There are only a couple reasons that I can see that might warrant all of the military buildup. One would be if China was planning some kind of attack, since we know they have thousands of troops just on the other side of our borders. The other reason is if for some reason Biden was not inaugurated as he planned, and then there would be rioting in the streets again from the liberals. I guess we will know soon enough, but it is for certain that we have never seen anything like this before.

My son in law has been there all week. Talked to him thursday. He said that on inauguration day there will be comparatively few guardsman on crowd control. The vast majority are staged in the wings. He claims that if something does start, the rioters will be in for an extremely fast and decisive response,which will settle this bullshit for once and for all!
Are they housing them somewhere, @Peter Renfro ? The picture that I saw showed the military having to eat and sleep on the floor at the capitol. I am hoping that they have given the military a better place to stay than it looked like from that picture.
My sil's unit and a couple of others are in a warehouse turned into a makeshift barracks. Cots and field mess.
I’m sure that all contingencies have been covered but still, I’m not really concerned with some idiots trying to force themselves into the capital because with the very well advertised deployment of the military, a person would indeed Have to be an idiot to try., That said, what I AM concerned about is someone carrying a nuclear device. But again, I’m sure someone has already thought about that. I hope.

I am sure they’re ready but my hopes are that the 82nd will be on stand-down throughout the whole debacle. Way back before I went to the Nam we practiced crowd control but those were the days of large demonstrations against the war and frankly, the methods we were being taught were just to control a crowd not to overwhelm it. I fear these are different times, with different attitudes.
