I have been digging for more info about Austin. I was interested in the details of his Silver Star Award, his placement at West Point, his income from several directorships with one of them in the health care field. his salary and net worth.

From what I can gather his confirmation is not a done deal because the Senate has to grant him a waiver. It seems that the Senate has a policy of not confirming Generals who have been out of service less than 7 years. They granted a waiver for General Mattis but Jack Reed, ranking member of Senate Armed Services, says waivers should only be granted once in a generation.

How on earth does he justify that "once in a generation?" Seems to me that a precedent has been established.

He doesn't have to justify......He's a US Senator
Actually I think it is the thing about the military/industrial complex and the rear that since he's still close to military there would not be impartiality in decision making

Well to me it seems that Senators do pretty much what they like.

He is supposed to be totally unbiased. It would be a rare man who's career was in the military who would not be biased.

In order for Austin to be confirmed, the House and the Senate will have to vote to waive the law that prohibits former military officers from becoming defense secretary within seven years of leaving active duty. This would put Austin, who retired in 2016, in the same position in which President Trump’s first nominee for defense secretary, retired Marine Gen. James Mattis, found himself.

Mattis — and Trump — prevailed, but 17 Democratic senators and 150 Democratic representatives voted against granting the waiver in 2017. Those members of Congress, who include three current members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will now be hard-pressed to explain their reasoning if they vote to grant a waiver for Austin. https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-wi...lloyd-austin-as-pentagon-chief-210908873.html

We usually just see the picture of him/her with the hair all down, so this is a different visual of the person responsible for keeping America healthy.

Beth, Ugh would be in my list of adjectives also. Same for facial tattoos, dyke lesbians, flamer gays, or several other oddities that may come to mind. The mere fact that I harbor prejudices does not have anything to do with the applicants skills and abilities.
