I eat seasonal most of the time.
For years I craved pumpkin in October. I would make pumpkin pudding...pie without a crust and eat it two three times a day.
But last two years not been intrested.
Sometime last year I craved orange juice..I never drink juices. So bought some and drank half gallon the first week. Still buying orange juice but not drinking it as much.
    Another craving this year oatmeal.
I have eaten more oatmeal in the last 6-7 months than in my entire life. What gives here ?
I take a multi vitamin sonot sure it is vitamin related.
Do you get cravings or the need to eat certain things ?

Yes. In an old article or book called "The Body Does Not Lie", pointed out that just like deer or cattle in the fields will walk over 20 miles for a salt block , or eat particular plants at different time when they get sick , plants that have exactly what they need,
likewise people can potentially learn to listen to their own body,
and know what is helping or hurting when they eat or drink it.

When someone is short of nutrients, the body will attempt to satisfy those deficiencies by having desire for certain foods or drinks or even for soil ... (in Haiti, pregnant women often ate mud to get the minerals their body and the baby inside them needed (they had no access to food or drink as if any store was within their reach.. at least the documentary after the devastation showed this) ...

More known, when a woman is pregnant and 'craves' pickles or such, the body is trying to get what it needs more or less....

No, not like you said. Every once in a while I get a craving for a good steak.

I have seasonal cravings, too, @Gloria Mitchell . Every fall, I want apples, and all winter long, I have at least one apple each day, either raw or chopped up in my oatmeal or in cottage cheese.
Midwinter, I usually want grapefruit, but don’t have them as often as the apples, and in summer, I want peaches and berries.
I love salads in the summer and soup in the winter, and part of that is probably due to the temperature changes. Who wants a cold salad in 30 degree weather or a hot bowl of soup when the temperature is 90 outside !

    That said.....chocolate is forever ! !

when I'm craving something intensely, I think it's my body telling me what it needs. Orange juice often gives me indigestion, but on occasion I'll crave it like mad and I can drink half a carton with no ill results. That tells me that my body "needed" something.

I have always believed that if we pay attention, our body will let us know what it needs. Nobody ever told me that but it makes sense to me. Especially the chocolate part. :D

I never get cravings for food I don't see. So I try to be careful what aisles I walk through in the grocery store, and look straight ahead on some I can't avoid. Like pastry and pizza.

Once I taste something, I often get cravings for a second helping, and 3rd, and 4th... Does that count?

The only healthy thing that happens with is grapefruit juice. Now they claim it is not so healthy if you take meds. It's hard to even find it now. :(

Yep. I love it. But only unsweetened, at room temperature, not cold.

Not so with orange juice. Go figure.

I usually follow my cravings. I assume there is something my body is demanding.

I likewise find that I have foods that are in my regular rotation (for example, I go for months having a supply of beef goulash in the freezer), then suddenly I'm not eating it anymore without consciously making the decision to change.

Before I was put on statins, I loved grapefruit juice. I would buy the bottled Tropicana. Everything else is just way too sweet. At the time, I was on a supplement program and would add potassium powder to the grapefruit juice. It has a salty edge to it that really enhances the grapefruit flavor.

For a while I started buying 100% cranberry juice and then adding just a splash of apple juice to take the edge off of it. But I still miss grapefruit juice. It is so good.

Lately I've been guzzling orange juice. Not sure if it's a craving, but I seem to go long times without caring about juice, then suddenly drink it every day for a while.

That is what happened to me. Guess I am over it now. I could sure use a good juicy cantaloupe. .:p
