I was called several times while I was living in Texas, but never in any other place that I've lived. I was never chosen for a jury in Texas, probably because I was a paramedic and they thought I had relationships with the police or whoever. At any rate, I was usually rejected by the defense attorney fairly early on.

How do you know about the "past age 70" thing...........not being called?

My wife is exempted from jury duty due to her asthma.

I got a letter about 4 years ago, but when I called the specified number to see if my "duty" was going to happen, I was told that I wouldn't be reporting. Good enough for me!

I was called, four times, and dismissed, four times. After that, I sent my audiogram, and a note saying I would be unable to hear anything being discussed, clearly, without court provided, state of the art hearing aids and someone to tell me if I missed something. I got a letter telling me I was permanently deleted from the potential jurist pool.

My wife got a notice to appear, and one of the "excuses" they allowed is over age 70. So she checked the box and didn't appear. I should have said that this is a State provision (Md.). I'm not sure if it applies to Federal juries. I've never gotten a notice from either one.

By the way, people over 70 whose vehicles are driven less than a certain no. of miles per yr. are excused from having those vehicles checked to see if they meet the environmental standards (Md.).

My wife was called two times to appear at the court 30 miles away. She wrote back that she had no way to get there because there is no public transport. nothing after that. I haven't been called since I lived in another state 40 years ago.

I have been called up four different times, three to are local Crown Court and once to the Old Baily.

We do up two weeks+ at a time and can have a number cases(Have had eight) ranging from fraud to incest.

Three of my cases have been incest.

We have a different system we can return a verdict on a 10 to 2 split saves a lot of hung jury's

We also have the 70 year rule.

Jurors are also not allowed to discuss what is said in the jury room with anybody else if asked even by the Judge.

I served on Jury five times, was dismissed on another. On one
I waas the lone holdout for a coule of hours and a couple of
hours and a couple of votes. I finally changed my vote when I
finally realized I was wrong. The man had two previous
convictions for the same charge. I was going to list the charge
but I couldn't spell it. Anyway he was messing atround with
    little boys.

I would not mind being a juror on a good interesting case. The only one I was on was 30 years ago and we voted a 70nyear old woman guilty for stealing a carton of cigarettes from a store.

In some states, people over 70 are exempt from jury duty.
