Just getting ready to go outside and shoot some in back yard a new 8" SBR we finally got all the papers for back. I always tell neighbor before I do so, most times he joins me. I was going to a range trip but just wished to fire off a few so will do so here and save the half hour drive.
I don't if this belongs here or not, but after looking at some of the things in the new Democrat gun control bill, it will make it possible to stop all gun sales at any time, even those among individuals. I knew they were after semi-auto rifles, but now it appears they are after all guns, regardless of the configuration. It would even ban passing down guns to your son or daughter without an FBI background check.
@Don Alaska Quite a number of laws have been enacted with the intent of removing firearms from private owners, based on making it illegal to bequeath them upon death. I forget where this is already in effect. Given the unknown millions of guns in private hands in America, I see no laws as being effective with any widespread result of disarming the population.......guns will always be exchanged between private hands, eventually under the shadow of privacy. The problem as I see it is that although the laws may be functionally unenforceable, they make de facto felons out of honest citizens. Those honest citizens happen to be the ones who are Enemies of the State. So that threat shall forever be hanging over their heads, just waiting to be discovered and [selectively] prosecuted. The laws shall have a chilling effect on such transactions. Then there's the Red Flag laws...
As stated in @John Brunner 's text, it has the effect of making everyone criminals waiting to be discovered.
I forgot to point out that this will have a [intended] chilling effect on how aggressively we participate in holding our governments accountable.
I am very active in competitive shooting and have been many years , I know of no one at all that says they will abide to any new laws like are being proposed, not one all, it will make overnight criminals of law abiding people and doing nothing nothing to the street trash that break them and create most all the problems. Our clubs say we live by the 2nd admend. We have a match Saturday and I cant wait for it!
To some as myself shooting is part of my life, most friends have been made from it also indirectly, our church had a shooting group as well as an armed safety team, I was ironically invited to go shoot today but had to pass on it just cant do everything! We have over a 3 year waiting list to join our shooting groups per my last Jan info. That has been about normal for 7-8 years. We have a safety cap on membership and have had over 1000 now go through our program in the past. Many do not pass the credit and background checks, 1 negative anything and your out even something spoken negative and your gone also any guests you have with you will also eliminate you as your responsible for them also. We have had 1 only be told to leave and escorted off property, A guest cost a member's family to be removed per her remark we were training killers, zero accidents at all none. I shoot every week all year long.
About half our members are present or ex law enforcement and military. Our Sheriff publicly said he will Not enforce anything against our 2nd amendment.
I understand that many sheriffs will not enforce the Federal laws, but that does not deter the Federal agencies from doing so. Sheriffs are a special category of law enforcement, as they are generally the only ones elected to their posts by the people.
With the amount of firearms in civilian hands millions they do not have the manpower to remove them, also per biduns speech they were not to remove what is owned prior but who knows there all we hear here if you want something now is the time to get it not tomorrow.
True, they cannot go house-to-house confiscating firearms, but they do have the manpower to target groups of those training or just enjoying firearms. It appears at this stage their intention is to prevent the transfer and sale of guns so they can be more easily located, just judging by the content of the bills. They are trying to institute "universal" background checks so that any sale of firearms not recorded by the government is illegal. Also in the bills are provisions to remove the "expiration" of the background check, currently apparently 3 days, after which the background check is automatically approved on the purchase or transfer of firearms. That expiration is to be removed, so they can delay approval indefinitely, but there is an expiration of the background check at thirty days, so if they delay approval for 30 days, you must reapply for a background check all over again. This appears to be a very dangerous step onto the "slippery slope" of gun confiscation using a manipulation that appears harmless initially.. Biden has also said in public speeches that he wants semi-auto (called "assault weapons" by the naïve) rifles and a restrictions on magazine (called "clips" by the naïve) size.
