That's average normal for outbreaks of various things in the past. In the USA and in the world. The actual cause of deaths was never so uncertain as in the last year either. (total number of deaths has not increased, apparently... only those claimed to be by the pandemic) For instance, //www.statista.com/statistics/263989/number-of-fatalities-due-to-flu-pandemics/ During the Spanish flu from 1918 to 1919 around 50 million people were estimated to have died. More recently, between 151,700 and 575,400 people died from the swine flu or H1N1 pandemic in 2009 ...
March 19/21 Corona virus in Brazil, what we need to know The president scorned the virus and then got it himself. He disclosed on July 7 that he had the coronavirus, turbocharging the debate over his cavalier handling of the pandemic. Mr. Bolsonaro has dismissed the danger posed by the virus, undermined quarantine measures adopted at the state level and called on Brazilians to continue working to keep the economy from collapsing. If they do not flatten the curve, its likely to cause mutations which will endanger the WORLD. Hospitals are full and there is a shortage of beds. Young people are contracting the virus and are dying.
Because of guys like Bolsonaro the effort to get a vaccine out as quickly as it was could be undermined. By allowing this virus to spread and remain viable for a whole year, numerous mutations developed, some of which might cause the vaccine to be less effective than it would have been. I guess we'll find out.
The truth is, barring none, all virus’s mutate. It’s part of what they do. Scientists knew that from the onset and part of preparing a vaccine was to track the progress of those mutations just the same as it is with the flu. A tweak here and there with the present vaccines is already being introduced so I see no need to panic or believe that we are going to Have to go through the measures we saw during the whole of the CV pandemic. What we have now that we didn’t have prior to the CV-19 is knowledge, or rather, the primer by which all future activities of the virus can be reasonably assumed.
Yes, mutations are no cause for alarm. But the fact remains that the virus in Brazil is spreading quick. Who knows what civilians will do in order to get away from the plague in their country. ?
Head for Peru or Paraguay? Dunno. Heading here would be a mistake. Brazil is it’s own sovereign country but I believe is still with the U.N. and a member of the WHO so whatever moves the country is making is assuredly in line with those two entities. Again, dunno.
Canadian Senate passes Bill C-7, expanding assisted dying to include mental illness... March 20/21 Intolerably suffering Canadians who are not near the natural end of their lives now have the right to seek medical assistance in dying. And that will eventually include people suffering solely from grievous and irremediable mental illnesses, with a 2 year time limit. The expansion of Canada’s assisted dying regime went into effect Wednesday night after the Senate accepted a revised version of Bill C-7.
My question would be, "Who makes the decisions for those with mental illness?" I don't know what they define as mental illness, but it is perhaps to deal with those with dementia of various forms. I wonder if ALS would be considered a mental illness under the law. Do you know, @Susan Paynter ?
@Don Alaska ALS I believe is a degenerative illness. I know there was a doctor in NB, I think who was granted MAID. She had a degenerative illness. Cannot remember which one. Re mental illness, ideally, it will be a team of psychiatrists who would be the deciding factors, together with others. Not researched in detail as yet.
Heard on the news that MM will at some point want to stand for President. Her ratings in the he US have climbed, especially after the interview, while in Britain it has dropped. Wonder if there is a twist from the British tabloids angle to see US reaction to this news.
Neighbor who tossed an elderly Jewish woman off a balcony while yelling 'Allahu Akbar' avoids trial because he smoked weed Wonder what happened here? Did she tell him to stop smoking weed. The smoke/smell does travel through vents. Should we feel compassion for him/her. Looks like she put up with it for a long time and eventually said enough is enough. Is it possible that some people are not mindful of others. I guess, she should have started smoking weed too, as some would think, and as the saying goes "if you can't beat them join them"? Some people think the erring party is right and one should not complain about misdemeanors.
I do not know much about the case but the fact that he yelled Allahu Akbar is contrary to someone who smokes pot because Muslims are forbidden to use the stuff. Now, if indeed the thrower is Muslim and did bodily harm to the throwee who is Jewish, why would it not be construed as a hate crime in one form or another? Dunno. Something has to be amiss here because nothing makes sense. A person who is high is considered under the influence therefore it adds to the crime, not deducts from it. A Muslim who smokes pot is not a practicing Muslim ergo he’s just a plain pot head who hates his old lady neighbor or a very anti semitic idiot who has a heckova good lawyer.
Can't seem to understand what this world is coming to. He must have been the odd one of the flock. Not likely a hate crime, he was on dope for many years, it seems. Bottom line, what one does in their home is their business, it becomes your neighbors when it disturbs them. Homes, buildings are built with such cheap materials where the bulk of the profit goes in one pocket. I dont think code is followed to the T either. I may be ruffling a few feathers, but this is the truth and I have experienced it. Walls and ceilings are built with paperthin materials, one need not go out into the world, it comes to you.
Build it quick and cheap inexpensively. Some state codes call for 6” or brick between units for a firebreak and some do not. Some call for 5/8” of drywall in each unit wall and some let the contractors decide and the cheap guys will opt for 3/16” because it’s cheaper, lighter and easier to install. Some codes call for concrete between floors whilst others approve 3/4” wood flooring. My personal opinion is that in order to avoid any hassles in regard to apartment living, the trick is to avoid living in the darned things to begin with. No balconies to be thrown out of and ya don’t know anything about your neighbor’s private life unless they tell ya.
"don’t know anything about your neighbor’s private life unless they tell ya." Not so sure about dhat.....now I wonder why the queen likes her corgis. She once mentioned, whatever you tell them it stays with them
