Oh, and I forgot to mention that the three meals came with 3 packs of meat. One of ground pork for the "Korean Pork and Rice Cakes" and two boneless chicken breasts. I "assumed" the two pieces of chicken were for one dish but apparently not. I'm a hapless victim of the Portion Control Police. (Luckily I have plenty of chicken breasts in the freezer but annoying that they are chinchy with the protein.)
The box contained 3 meal kits. (Pictured earlier in the thread.) One is the Korean Pork, the others are both chicken dishes. I expected there to be two chicken breast portions for the chicken with fettuccine (as pictured), and chicken chunks for the chipotle chicken dish. Unless the breast portions are extremely thin and packaged together, we will get to "share" that piece or I'll whip out another from my stash. I'll probably make that one tomorrow, so we'll see how this unfolds. :cliffhanger:
Speaking of chicken, I need to get downstairs and pick the meat off the leftover rotisserie chicken from Monday and put it in the freezer. Tomorrow's garbage day and I don't want that carcass smelling up the place.
Review of Korean Pork and Rice Cakes: OK but wouldn't buy again. The dish looked pretty but the "rice cakes" were kind of odd... gummy and not much flavor. (The bag indicated "includes wheat" which I found odd for rice cakes, but whatever.) They had the appearance of sliced water chestnuts so it was a surprise to bite into one. Also, the dish was finished with a stir of creme fraiche... whaaaa?? Somehow that did not compute and added an unexpected creaminess to what was basically a stirfry. It wasn't bad, but not really good, either. Since all the prep work was done except for washing and chopping the bok choy, it was fast to make.
Today it's Garlic Caper Chicken with Fettuccine and Zucchini. I thawed out a pack of the chicken breast and there actually are two small-ish pieces in there after all. I'm sure it will be sufficient considering the pasta is filling.
I've had them in: -pasta sauce -Chicken picata -tons of different fish & seafoods -pizza -green beans -deviled eggs -tartar sauce -potato salad -flank steak marinades You gotta rinse them to get the brine off. I noticed you had pickled beets the other night. If they're on a buffet and I have a free spot on my plate, I might throw a slice on there. But I won't seek them out. Nor will I eat pickled eggs. Or green olives.
Review of the Garlic Caper Chicken with Fettuccine and Zucchini. Pretty good, but very garlic-y and I love garlic. Tasted like something you'd get from Olive Garden. As for the capers... meh. I'm not a huge fan and this dish could have done fine without 'em. If I were continuing with Blue Apron, this one would probably be ordered occasionally, but I'd tweak the garlic and ditch the capers.
For me, the meal kits usually offer just enough of a serving size, not too much and not too little. There's no second helpings but neither do I walk away hungry.
