It's my understanding that most mattresses will last for seven to ten years and the should be replaced for good sleep. What's been you experience?
We have a memory foam mattress, and we usually add a topper after a couple of years, then replace the whole thing every five years.
I paid a little more and got a latex mattress about 8 years ago and added a topper to it. It is reversible and I use the soft side with a 3 inch topper that is a little thicker. So far, its been perfect for me. One thing I like is that there are no chemicals in it - its all natural, and it will last for 40 years (not that I'll need it that long)
Says you (and the people who want to sell more mattresses.) It's holding up fine and no plan to replace for a while.
Latex is what I would prefer. My very first mattress was latex and it did last for 40 years. I think they offer latex in different levels of hardness now, so I'm not sure the most firm would be firm enough. Last mattress I bought was extra firm Sealy innerspring, no pillow top. I've had it for about 5-6 years. I like it. It's holding up fine so far.
So, true story. I woke up one night about 3AM and my underwear were soaked! "No way!" I said out loud. "No way I did that!! I'm an adult!!!!!" I dried off, put on fresh underwear, and took a close look. There was a pin hole in the water bed mattress right by my waist, and my cat was shooting me that "Screw you" look. It was on purpose. I just know it.
Did anyone here ever sleep on a Magic Fingers mattress -- like they had in motels quite a few years ago? I did. It was in Del Mar, CA. It was a so-so massage for 2-bits. Then, in the wee morning hours, while I was still sleeping, I got another massage. For free. It was great! I later found it was a 6.2 earthquake that did it, not Magic Fingers. Back on topic --- my wife & I always used a high-spring-count innerspring & gave it a 180 degree spin after 3-4 years of use, Reason: she weighed 105, I weighed 235. So we got 6-8 years of good use per mattress.
