I remember when this song first came out. Except for the girl in the background, I still like it. Ran across it 3 weeks ago and have been humming it ever since. {help! } Audio is not very good, but the video is more interesting than an album cover.
Ah, yes. The illusion of innocence. That was a time where you could just kinda sway around and "be dancing"...and you actually made contact!!!
I've been watching the Aretha Franklin series on National Geographic Channel this week, so I've had a lot of good songs in my head.
The best version of Bali Hai is a video from the musical "South Pacific" sung by Juanita Hall ("Bloody Mary" in the cast). Give it a listen to...the intro has a beautiful image of the Island! Hal
Yes, John...Peggy certainly has a sweet version, but check out Juanita Hall's version from the musical "South Pacific"! The video even shows you the ethereal image of the magic island Bali Hai. Hal
Thanks for that. I've only heard Peggy Lee and Perry Como sing it. I also discovered this: Some say the substitution was due to "copyright issues." Others claim that Rodgers (of Rodgers and Hammerstein) personally preferred Smith's voice and made the "over-dub" decision. Either way, there's universal agreement that she was dubbed. Kinda sucks, don't it? Some enterprising soul took the soundtrack of Hall's singing on stage and dubbed it over the movie, so you can watch and hear it in her own voice. Here it is:
That's pretty cool. I was in every band that there was (Pep, Marching, Brass Choir, Jazz, Stage, Symphonic) so was lucky to have been exposed to all sorts of good music.
