Ours definitely are! Boating/fishing, just us. Viewing wildlife, just us. Love mountains, just us. Rodeo/Western stuff, just us. Target shooting, just us. Photography, just us. Movies (including Star Wars), just us.

How about you and your family?

Families are just people, so yeah... interests are going to be varied.

Lol none of us have a thing in common that I know of. That's why they live on one side of the tracks and me make sure we stay on our side. I call that family compromise;)

We share some of the same interests like enjoying each others company as often as we can. We all like sharing meals together, playing outdoor games like horse shoes, volleyball, etc.. We like swapping recipes and trying out new ones. We enjoy watching our home football teams play against other teams together or in our individual homes. I love reading and researching things on the computer....a few of my sisters also love to read but my daughters seldom read a book or even a magazine...their lives are just to busy with others things.

Most of my family share the same faith and we all enjoy sharing that faith in various ways with each other. I'd say we have more in common than not. Our only problem now days is finding time to get together and share these things we have in common.

Well, I just thought about my thread and it came to my mind that there are those families where kids and their parents are in the same career and/or run a business together.

There are also ranching, farming and even rodeo families that have the very same interests, as in ranching, farming and rodeo.

Yes, we're all mad for travel, among other things.

My family was extremely dysfunctional. Huge age difference between 4 children except for the last 2. Even though my brother next to me was born in essentially the same era, we had nothing at all in common. The last 2 were born when I was in my teens and since I went off to college at 17, I never really got to know them.

My mother was a housewife per se, dad worked but did like to hunt and fish, I took after my uncle, hunting, fishing, horses and cattle and a lifetime of competitive shooting which I still crave to do, when younger I was known as the boy on the grey horse with that blonde girl with him (my cousin) by my parent's friends. So no with no brothers or sister I did not take after my parents very much.

We are all so antisocial as a whole, I don't even know what they do when we aren't together.
We consider the dysfunction as our family glue.
We haven't had a big family get together since the Clinton Administration. :D

One thing that I've found is difficult is talking with family. Certain things we want to talk about, they have no idea about and really don't care about. Heck, they may want to talk about something that we have no interest in. Since we moved back to Colorado, this time of year, IOW "winter", none of them are really interested in the weather here. None of them would live back in snow/winter State. They all left Michigan, in part due to winters there.

When we use to go to a livestock sale, just to observe, we'd tell a member of the family about it and absolutely no interest at all. We will end up going back to livestock sales, but that's in the future. Rodeo, boating, fishing are the same way...........they have no interest at all.

At times, it can be really tough communicating with family when..........neither side cares about what the other does.

I fish and shoot very much still multiple days most every week no body in my family came close to that but my cousin Sandi and she is lone passed from an overdose when I was in the Army, without my fishing and shooting I would be a lost soul. When I say I go a lot I mean that, 2-3 days already planned next week already.

Wife and I are darn near 100% different than either of our families.

No interests in: wildlife, guns/target shooting, anything western-horse-livestock related, rodeo and darn sure no casino gambling.

How about you? Different or very much alike?
