I was but I’m not at this second. Maybe later unless it’s earlier. - Now, what about fishing? Do we? Not in the last few years. Did we? Yeah, especially when we lived on a property with two bass ponds. Will we? Maybe.
Bought our licenses a couple of weeks ago. When we go out on our boat, we go to the deeper end of the lake (around 45 feet) and fish for Rainbows (trout). Three rods put into rod holders and Canadian Nightcrawlers or perhaps some soft cheese bait. We do more of the "catch and release", after a iphone picture, than we do keeping. So, yes, we do fish.
I've always loved fresh water fishing. I'm not big on getting in a boat out on the ocean or in a bay, although I prefer seafood to eating fresh water fish. My favorite has always been bass fishing with top water lures. I've been wade fishing in the Shenandoah River a number of times, and used to have one of these:
A little "add-on" to my post: After arriving, to live in Jacksonville, Florida in 2009, we decided to buy saltwater rod/reel for my wife for her birthday. A few weeks later, we bought the same for me, plus a tacklebox and some extra tackle. We were going to fish on the St. John's River, but at the time, didn't have a boat. The boat we had in Colorado, we co-signed it to the marine sales we bought it from and they sold it. So, we were going to do some ocean pier fishing. Then, we found the boat we have now and even installed the rod holders we had. However, ended up taking off the rod holders. Now, for the 10 1/2 years, in Jacksonville, we never once used the saltwater fishing equipment we bought. Heard some bad things about fishing on the St. John's and only once went on the Intracoastal and ocean (for a very, very short time). So, before moving back here to Colorado, sold, and gave away, every bit of saltwater equipment we had. Now, the wild part of this is..........during the 10 1/2 years we were in Florida, we had all of our freshwater gear that we had bought when we lived in Colorado before. Still have it now and I re-installed the rod holders here and we bought a new Sonar/Fish Finder on the boat.
I used to fish a lot here, and I did a lot of bass fishing when I lived in the South. When I lived in the Bush, fishing was subsistence and we used drift nets for salmon, although other fish were available with rod and reel. Since my children have moved out and I have gotten older, fishing here is quite a chore, so I don't do it much. The kids pass a few salmon to us every year and that is enough. Other than halibut, I am not a big fish eater anyway. During the Bush years, we ate salmon as often as 5 times a week, so I have lost a taste for it.
I once caught one that was over a pound on a rig with split shot, a casting plug and a fly. For a crappie, that's a big darned fish. In Virginia (at the time), it was only halfway to a Citation.
