I agree he had a screen presence, his replacement John McIntire was okay but not as good as Ward Bond. I enjoyed him in "It's a Wonderful Life".

    I don't recall that.

Some of the early roles these people were in. And the quality of their acting was pretty much the stuff of elementary school plays.

He played the monster, was a walking vegetable. It was A non-talking roll, just a lot of growling.

I just looked it up (The Thing From Another World.) I've seen it a million times.

I mostly recall him from the original TV series Mission Impossible.

To keep it somewhat on topic...WIKI says that Graves played in a sort-of western:

This aired in England and in Australia. Written by Gene Roddenberry (the guy who wrote Star Trek.)

Now that we have the Cowboy Channel, on our Roku device, we can watch the old Roy Rogers tv shows as well as the old Lone Ranger shows. Many in black-white, but some in color.

Now if I could only find a way to watch the old Sky King, Sgt. Preston of the Yukon and The Wild, Wild West episodes.

That's the correct title thing from another world, I actually like part of it couple of months ago.
His brother Peter Graves I remember in Mission Impossible.

Oops. I got the two brothers confused. Yes, James Arness was in that flick. I wondered why I didn't see it listed on Graves' WIKI page. Thanks for the correction.

I remember seeing a film we're the credits used James Arness real name which was James (King) Aurness. I believe it was his first role in the movie "The Farmer's Daughter"

    You know what's interesting?

I am fascinated by the stories of these legacy actors and actresses, but I couldn't give a tinker's dam about any of the current ones.

I guess I watched most of them. I started reading western novels at age twelve and never stopped. I reader other genres
but there is nothing like a good western story to relax one after a long hard day. Throw in a little love interest and all is
    well that ends well.

I've been watching a lot of there reruns. Back in the day I think it was opposite Disney as a youngster I watched a lot of Disney. It is a very good show I guess that's why it was on for about 15 years.
