    I had one of these:

It had a stylus you would insert by the number and mechanically push the mechanism up or down. I always liked stuff like this.

I'm surprised I could find a picture of it.

My dad passed away in the early 50s. He built and drove his own race cars (dirt track "midgets") and somehow I ended up with his valve lapping tool. Orange handle. I was surprised to see that you can still buy one. I have never used the tool, and it's time to give it to my son, who will appreciate it.

Yes, I remember those. They were sockets for straightening miniature tube pins. Most tube testers had pin straighteners. I got rid of all my old electronics tools and parts in a final cleanup in 2010.

That's a great story. Such a treasure and a wonderful family heirloom.

You're right it was a pin straightener, the other items were a filament Tester ( most times I used a meter), and a tube puller, which I used if the tubes we're in a difficult location or very hot.

I've used one of those for repairing lawnmower engines.

I loved watching those dirt races.

Still have my stethoscope, and it works, from when I was an EMT in the mid 70's.

As far as photos of "stuff I had", well, if horses count, have a few pictures of the Red Roan I use to rope off of.

I looked when you first posted it. I HATE not knowing this stuff. I've seen weird tools at yard sales that have stuck in my craw until I found them on the web. I've found nothing on this. It looks like a twine dispenser you might use for binding packages. Can the twine string through that hole in the front of it?

Yes it can it's only about 7 or 8 inches long. My aunt had a ton of Hobbies, she collected dolls, crocheted, made jewelry. It could have been something she use for one of her crafts I don't know. I actually posted pictures of it online and nobody could come up with what it was. Thanks for trying to find out what it is.

I've not given up. Now it's a burr under my saddle. Is there a manufacturer's name or mark on it? Did you put that red twine in there or did it come from her like that?

A Patent No. would be ideal.

Does the twine spool come out or do you wind fresh back on to it? Does the twine spool have any markings?
