    I wish I had more friends nearby to help eat my cooking like I did back "home."

    I got a taste for some lemon bars a while ago and made a big pan of them, with shortbread crust and lemon curd filling. Man, they were good. I froze a whole bunch, and over time I ate them all. But still....

    It's another reason I miss all of our church brunches and other get-togethers. I make this stuff, reserve some for myself, and take the rest to the gathering. Of course, I was always taking home stuff other folks made, so it was probably a wash...a big fat wash.

    It's a big joke at these church gatherings. We all cook so much and no one wants to take home leftovers.

    @Jeff Elohim

    From where do these "dictates" originate?

    Places don't want food that's been prepared elsewhere, especially in non-commercial kitchens.

    The only exception I ever saw was at my last employer, who used to have tons of catered functions. We had arrangements with such local places to take our surplus (and there was lots of it.) But that's a very rare arrangement...and the food was from caterers, not a bunch of individual home kitchens.

    I agree 100%. Especially these rural areas with minimal resources.
