So, are there any devices that can help when spellcheck falls down and can’t get up?

You are so right, Beth...it's prescribe, not precscribe as you pointed out!

(My Alzheimers in even affecting my spelling!)

Thank you for the sarcasm-free correction!

All residents are furnished with alarm pendants. Pushing a button on the pendant will summon a care worker in minutes. If the pendant hits the floor it indicates a fall has occured and help will arrive. In addition, my next door neighbor Linda just sent me a text saying I should bang on our common wall three times to let her know if I need help. The pendants are very sensitive. I have accidently dropped mine on several occasions andit summoned a care worker.

Well, since many who lived in an assisted living place aren't in the best heath, they need this pendant. But, there are many, that don't live in a place like this that don't. An iPhone with an "Emergency" button is all that is needed, if it is needed. My wife and I are together nearly 99% of the time, so either of us are right there if something was to happen to either of us.

They use to sell those pendants like Lon wears and it was connected to a company kind of like your home alarm is connected too. Only this pendant brings emergency health trained people to help you. I think you paid a monthly fee to have this service...but it's probably a lot cheaper than a. IPhone and Apple watches.

Usually, when elderly people are said to have fallen and broken their hip, the actual sequence of events was that they broke their hip, and then they fell. Hips can get pretty feeble as we get older and if you add a lot of weight into the occasion, they can just break.

As a paramedic, I have been sent to several calls in which a patient's device had called 9-1-1 and the patient wasn't aware that 9-1-1 had been contacted because they were okay. Of course, devices have come to be more sophisticated these days.

Thus far, I have no need for such a device, so I'm still holding out for the Apple Watch/Phone that doesn't require a companion iPhone.

Do any of you have that Life Alert system where help can be summed after a fall?

Since April I've had 2 "falling down" incidents in my home, which required adult neighbors and visitors to get me off the floor and into a seated position.

This Life Alert system is a little around-the-neck button device that sends a signal out to receivers like a cell phone signal, and when the alert is answered, you give the responder your address and he lets himself into your home with the key in your lockbox.

I know what you are talking about, @Hal Pollner , and it sounds like that would be a good plan for you since you have been having unexpected falls. Bobby and I have been worrying about you , since it has been around a week since you were online and posted anything; and I am glad that you are okay.
If your wife is home with you, can’t she call 911 for help getting you back up , rather than having someone use a key to get in the door ?
My friend Evelyn used to have issues with falling, and her daughter would just call 911, and they sent the EMT’s out to help her get back up and check her to make sure that she was oaky and didn’t need to go to the hospital.

If you have to give the location information to someone who answers the alert device, it would not help you if you fell and blacked out, which would be bad if you were home alone. Other than that, it seems like a good idea to me.

@Hal Pollner ..try it out for awhile see how you like it. My FIL had one but refused to use it. Instead he would lay in floor way too long ..once over 24 hours! Very maddening for everyone else.

    Dear Yvonne and Bobby,

I'm pleased and honored that you noticed my absence from the Forum for awhile, but medical appointments and caring for my arthritic condition were were taking up much of my time.

My shoulder and knee pain are making normal movement difficult, so my Rheumatoid Arthritist Specialist has written a new, more effective prescription for pain relief, which I'll be using as soon as I get it from the Pharmacy.

I sent away for information from the Life Alert company, so I'll be able to make up my mind which unit to order. If I have a mishap away from home at a public place, my LandLine would not be accessible, so I'm hoping the button on the device will alert the persons who can respond to my location.

I have no cellphone service, so maybe a responder can be alerted just from the emergency button on the portable device. I'll see when I get the information!

    Thanks,
    Hal

Great, sounds like you are making progress in the right direction, and getting everything checked out for the medical alert device. I hope it works for you, and you will be much more safe and secure once you have it working.
It is good to see you back, and I am glad that you are doing okay and getting good medical care from your doctor.
Keep us updated as you are able to do that !
