My port is under the skin, Yvonne. I think there are "shower shirts" and some other waterproof covers you can buy, or perhaps just use some plastic wrap and medical tape to cover the tubes.
@Bill Boggs you said you used oxygen in the shower, but you didn't say if it was from a concentrator or a tank. Did you use a cannula or a mask? You should have a tank if you have a concentrator, so you could try using the tank and a mask instead of a cannula if you haven't tried that already. Perhaps talking to a respiratory therapist could help more than talking to your provider.
Don, i have a RT visit me regularly. All are aware and have made suggestions. All my problems are not lung related, maybe most. I’ve had three heart attacks. When I stand or do the least physical activity, My heart does not pump enough blood (and oxygen in the blood) to the organs in my body, brain, heart, lungs, Kidneys, liver. That’s the reason I cant crawl in and out of the shower with out becoming breathless do anything physical, the reason I’m in a wheel chair. I’m told further if i push this and keek trying to do what I cannot, I could bring on a another heart attack or stroke and kidney failure. . There’s a name for this but don’t remember what it’ called. Basically, their is nothing I can do about except live out my in a wheel chair or bed, they say.
Bill please just stay in your chair and do what you Can do - talk a bit, see a bit, think a bit. I know posting on here is not like talking to actual person, but it helps with staying connected and even venting when needed. Can someone wheel you outside on a nice day, and let you soak of a bit of sun? Knowing a bit about your health and your wife, sounds like you both need someone there on a daily basis to help you both. Is it too costly for home health care? People who come in to help with all sort of thing, even cook a meal. I did that for a while, helping older folks get thru the day. Anyway, just know we all are here for you to yak with and complain to your hearts content. We won't mind -because we all are Next at some point.
Thank you, Ms Dottir. I'm going to count on it. And for your attention to my problem may the same happen to you. Gracious.
Well they could if didn't rain every day and storm every evening.. I can wheel myself out and if someone holds the storm door I can wheel back in, maybe. When the weather settles down I'll wheel myself out on the drive way or patio or maybe out under the shade of a tree, and watch the world go by, or the grass grow.
But that's enough on me, porfavor. There's a waiting line to post here and I'm blocking the way. Excusa.
Hello @Bill Biggs... I'm truly sorry to hear how tough things we took for granted when we were younger are for you now. Many of us are in the same boat as you Bill...and we're all just trying to do our best to get through each day just as you are. I just want you to know you are not alone in this. Our earthly bodies are not made to live forever but our eternal bodies will be. Whenever I get down about what I can't do anymore...I always ask our heavenly Father to help me think about all the things I can do still...and then I thank and praise Him for them. Just like you I have days when everything gets me down but that's normal as we grieve things that we have lost. Praying God will strengthen you and give you His peace Bill.
