Instant coffee is never going to taste like freshly made coffee, and some brands are better/worse than other brands; but I think that it can also have a place in my coffee-world. First thing in the morning, I have a cup of fresh coffee. In cold weather, I make a little 3-4 cup pot of coffee because I drink more then, and in the summer, I just make one cup, either a pour over or a K-cup. Occasionally (if I get up early enough) , I steal a cup of Bobby’s McCafe Colombian coffee. Later in the day, if I want coffee, then I just make instant coffee. I really like it for iced coffee in the hot weather, but it can also be good as a hot coffee, when it is a properly blended brand of instant coffee. The one that I have always preferred is Taster’s Choice, but I thought I would branch out and try something a little different, and went to see what Amazon had to offer. Some of it is pretty expensive ! I ended up getting one called “Tastle’ ”, which seems about like Taster’s Choice to me, and the more I drink it, the better I am liking it. I have actually drank more of it hot than I have in iced coffee.
Like the old jingle goes, "The best part of waking up is Folgers in my cup!"...........that is us. Instant Folgers, that is. Each morning, except the morning that we go to Dunkin Donuts for their coffee, of which we also love.
Reminds me of that Chevy Chase movie, National Lampoon's Las Vegas Vacation, when him, and his cousin (played by Randy Quaid), were digging up the Quaid's front yard looking for gambling money. Chase dug up a can of Yuban Coffee and Quaid said something like "you can that in ice cream or eat it right out of the can for a quick pick-me-up".
No thank you on any instant drink. I have been doing this to make my own iced coffee. After we have drank all the morning coffee, I make another pot. I set it aside to cool. Once cooled I add some ice to that to make sure it is very cool. Then remove ice then I add half an half and a bit of sugar, stir, put in fridge. Excellent taste better to me plus I can get it not overly sweet.
I used to use it on backpacking trips as it is easier and quicker to prepare and doesn't way much. I don't backpack any more, so emergencies only is the word.
Coincidentally, just a few days ago I got an ad in my email for a Keurig iced coffee maker. Of course, "instant" means that you froze the thing overnight so the last step is an "instant" one. I guess that makes my car a Star Trek transporter: drive for 6 hours, and when I open the door I'm "instantly" at my destination.
Instant coffee? Why not, I wouldn't reject it outright without trying and giving it afair shake. Next time I buy groceries. I may add a jar to my pantry.
2 heaping tsp Folgers in boiling water for 1st cup early AM, then I drink half down and fill with hot water. I do this a couple more times, then finish by adding 2 Tsb hot chocolate. In hot weather usually mid-morning, I use a pint-size flip-top heavy-duty water bottle and fill it 1/4th full of water, then add 2 tsp Folgers instant and 2 ice cubes and shake till coffee granules are dissolved. Then I add milk to halfway or more, then I fill with ice cubes and then finish with water. I shake it up and enjoy. As I drink it down, I add ice cubes until it gets diluted and then add another tsp of coffee, more ice cubes, and shake. The only time I drink brewed coffee is at doctors and dentist offices that have individual selections. I use their large cup and brew half a cup and fill the rest with hot water. I know this confession may get me evicted from the Pacific Northwest, but better than a serious caffeine headache and making my already overactive nerves go berserk.
When my parents got older, they switched from brewed coffee to instant. I always dreaded that when we'd visit them. They liked Taster's Choice.
