I've been on a mission to test my legacy food dislikes to see if I still have them. There are lots of things I've grown into. I have yet to test pickled beets, pickled eggs or pigs' feet. I don't actually recall ever tasting them in the first place. I think their aura turned me off. I have had chicken feet prepared by Peruvian friends just so I can say I've gnawed on them. Those are very much a "what's the point?" kinda thing.
They're the original convenience food. You don't ask to have them passed, you just call them over. I've recently seen them in my local Asian market. I've not thought to ask if they are part of that ethnic cuisine, or if they stock them for the local Latino population.
I bought an electric can opener a couple of years ago. I used it a lot to start with but I don't have room on the counter to keep it. I can get the manual can opener out of the drawer, open a can, and return it to the drawer before I can get the electric one out of the cabinet. But I'll keep it, just in case.
on my Amazon order today-ordered a under counter jar opener. My BF has one forever, so decided to try one myself. We both cant use our hands very well at times.
We used to go to a restaurant in Hamtramck (the name escapes me at the moment) that had the best chicken noodle soup in the world. It came in a bowl the size of a hubcap and had two huuuge chicken feet floating in it. I could never bring myself to gnaw on them like most of the diners did. I'm a pretty adventurous eater, but chicken feet?
It kinda makes sense to put them in a soup or a stock in a "Waste not/Want not" spirit, but you really only chew on them to bond with your fellow diners, not for any substance or nutrition. I think it's as much for effect as anything else. There is no meat.
@Yvonne Smith @Beth Gallagher Do I need to sign up for anything at Aldi's in order to get sale/discount prices? I'm thinking of heading there tomorrow.
No; you just walk in and shop. You'll need a quarter if you want to use a shopping cart; you get it back when you return the cart to the storage spot. Also, they don't provide bags so if you have a few spare grocery bags or some canvas totes toss them in your trunk.
