It may be that with Prime, Amazon eats the shipping for frequent orders. I know we used to pay $200 to $300 just to ship Christmas presents to the grandchildren every year. Amazon Prime has been a Godsend for us. We don't have cable tv either, so Prime video helps out. Delivery by Amazon is much slower here than to other parts of the country (I don't know about Hawaii) but we are used to the delay. Amazon took over its own delivery here a while back with two planeloads arriving every week. It actually slowed deliveries for a awhile, but things seem to be back to where they were, so I don't know what changed. Many things are simply not deliverable here. I ordered a radio and it accepted the order, then got a notice a few days later that they "don't deliver outside the United States." Gotta love it. I ordered the same radio in the Seattle area when I was visiting the daughters, and received it overnight.

As an aside, a friend here registered her daughter for Space Camp in Huntsville, AL and received and email that they were not accepting campers form Alaska or Hawaii. Reason unknown.

Before we were married, my wife lived in New Mexico and she would sometimes be told that a company didn't deliver outside of the country.

This stuff makes me wanna cry. I had a vendor once tell me he had stock in Texas and in California, and asked which was closest to Virginia. I told him it depended on whether his carrier only traveled east or only traveled west (I was not very nice.) He's now probably in charge of Amazon's shipping department.

I only see 2 orders in there that shipped as quickly as my routine expectations. I'd be pi$$ed if I were paying for a Prime membership.

Now Walmart has decide their wheels are gonna fall off.

I placed an order this afternoon and the ETA at the time was July 12. I soon got notification that the vendor almost immediately shipped and the Fed Ex website confirmed delivery Friday the 2nd. I just now (11:30PM) received an "update" from Walmart confirming the shipping data and reiterating the July 12 ETA:

    20210630 Walmart FedEx status.jpg

One would think the delivery data between the carrier and the vendor to be automated. Walmart has the Fed Ex Tracking Number on my order.

The only thing that might make sense is the $15 order includes shipping costs from California. Perhaps the vendor intended to ship Fed Ex Ground and it somehow went out 2 Day Air (Fed Ex does not show the specified delivery options.) But Walmart should still have the real data from Fed Ex even if the method did get screwed up.

I guess I'll find out on Friday who is telling the truth.

Current experience: I ordered 6 of one item; they were divided up 2 per package, AND each package arriving on a different day. This is the kind of thing that bugs me, especially as it seems they all came from the same place.

On a side note- do you guys who order from Amazon have those maps on your account page where you can see how many stops there are between the Amazon truck and your home?

It usually takes a week or more for our orders to arrive, so we don't get maps here.

I have one such map on the UPS site that shows where the brown truck is. But I live in a rural area. The sucker passes less than a mile up the road from me but blasts past my street heading way north to the other side of the county, and does not come back for several hours.

Like many regions, we have the original interstate and the new interstate that parallel each other. The truck icon will be on one of them one moment and then bounce over to the other...this is in between exits, implying that the guy must have ripped through some nasty woods and bounced back on the other roadway in order to pull off that feat of magic. I give him a hard time when he finally shows up, and promise to not report him ;)

I had a somewhat similar experience with Amazon truck a few months ago. The map showed truck was on the opposite side of this building, which is a different street. Instead of making an easy turn, the truck went in the opposite direction, back through downtown, and back to the carrier facility. Then, my delivery notice said my package wouldn't be delivered til the next day.
As usual, I'd spent the entire day waiting, and all the driver would've needed to do was beep or call when he was on the other side of the building, I would have walked out and picked up the package. Instead, though, all this malarky went on til they could say it was too late in the day to deliver it.

My UPS guy told me that he is not absolutely bound to follow the route that the computer puts forth. The ability to track their whereabouts is a mixed blessing. If I had his cell# there would have been a number of times I'd tell him to stop where he is and I'll be right there.

I wonder how many calls UPS get because of this ability to track them:
"Press '5' if the truck drove all around your house just to tick you off."

    Amazon Prime Benefits
    • FREE One-Day Delivery = Doesn't happen. I'd be happy if they shipped it within a day.
    • FREE 2-Day Delivery on Prime Products = Once they ship it, I sometimes see that two-day delivery, but it takes them a week or two to ship.
    • FREE Same-Day Delivery = Not available here.
    • FREE 2-Hour Grocery Delivery = Not available here.
    • Amazon Day = Doesn't even make sense, since I get free delivery anyhow.
    • Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery = Not gonna happen. No garage, for one thing. For another, Amazon doesn't deliver here, UPS does and they sometimes throw stuff in the snow.
    • Prime Reading = I use that sometimes, but not often.
    • Prime Video = They add new stuff once every five years or so.

It usually takes about two weeks for Amazon stuff to get here no matter how you order it, so it doesn't make sense to upgrade delivery. They do, however, seem to do a great job delivering to our kids and grandkids, often the same day just using standard delivery.
