Ya know Lon, I almost answered your question about your cat litter box the same way this morning. I don’t have a cat, I don’t want a cat nor do I have a kitty litter box to clean but that would have been a really weird thing for me to interrupt the thread, your thread by saying something I have absolutely no interest in. Jus sayin’ Back to the subject: There are assurances of salvation all over the New Testament but one of my favorites is; 1 John 5:12-13 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. Then of course there’s John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Yes, it was your answer but not THE answer. It isn’t a matter of me liking nor disliking your comment because I’m surprised that you even commented at all. If you do not worry nor care about salvation then certainly you have no reason to comment on it. Everyone here knows what your stance is so why bother? The question is: “Can we have assurance of Salvation” not, “do you worry or think about your salvation”. Since you do not believe there is a salvation at all then the best answer you might have given is “no” or nothing at all.
I like Lon's interest in spiritual things, and I hope he keeps it up. The bible says "Seek and ye shall find." My thoughts are that he is "deep down" interested because I believe in an "intelligently designed created universe" as opposed to "a universe resulting from evolution". Consequently, the Creator designed us in His image, resulting in a hunger and intelligence to "contemplate and commune with God". Some may not acknowledge this, but it is still my belief.
Self righteous? Nope. I’m just questioning why you keep repeating the same things over and over. If, as @Hugh Manely supposes, that you are really seeking to know a greater truth then why come on board every single time stating that you’re not interested or you do not believe it at all? You’ve done the same thing over and over since you came onto this forum two or three years or so ago. You’re not questioning, you’re making a statement that is meant to again testify as to your unbelief which kinda tells me that you want to, as you have admitted in the past, stir up controversy. Now That’s irritating!!
Lon does seem to be seeking the truth...and he will find it when he lets his pride stop getting in the way.
Now that might be the better explanation. I have come upon that many times in the Missions and maybe the simplicity just bypassed me somehow. The difference might be that folks in missions feel like they’re at the bottom looking up so accepting a better life through salvation is a much sweeter thing than staying where they are at in life. Still, there are many who believe that once they get “better”, they can go out into society anew and make tons of money which will make them feel like giants so being saved and loving the Lord is thrust to the back burner because their salvation is through money. It seems that people who feel secure in this world have a difficult time realizing that what they have can be lost in a second but the Son’s sacrifice on the cross guarantees our salvation if they simply accept it. I guess that’s where the hard part comes in because they just do not realize that they’re not giving up a single thing except that which does not please the Father. Pride does indeed go before a fall.
Oh but what joys await those who let loose of pride and discover the priceless gift of God's love for them.
Post Edit: Maybe somehow Lon’s reply might make sense for I too do not worry about my Salvation but I do think about it. There are two schools of thought and one of them is concerning the loss of salvation and the other is eternal salvation. As for me, I’m not going to test the waters even if I do believe in eternal salvation. If I do something stupid, I admit it and ask the Father to forgive me and try to do better in the future. So yes, I think about it often but again, I do not worry.
no! Hopefully it is not too late ~! DO NOT take two, nor one aspirin. It causes internal bleeding within 15 minutes, even in healthy people.
