Uh huh, and if the Actor’s Guild asked for the scripts to be cleaned up (which they would never do) and enough actors decided to not participate in the rampant language and sex activities in those scripts, (which again, they won’t do) that things wouldn’t change? The truth of the matter is that the actors LIKE to play the parts of rough speaking people and doing sex scenes and the crowds hold their money out for that stuff like they just got another stimulus check.. The more blood, guts, bad language, nudity (sex) and downright sadism there is the more money the crowds want to spend. Gimme more and make it rougher says the crowd and the actors say sure, gimme money and I’ll do anything because I’ll be a celebrity.
And, on top of actors and money, just look how much the public spends on going to WWE and Cage Fighting. Every time we pause for a second, looking for something else to watch, the arena for WWE and Cage Fighting is absolutely packed with folks.
Do ya really think NAACAR fans actually go to see cars making a 500 mile long left hand turn at high speed? Oh yeah, I forgot. They do get to go straight a couple of times per lap.
It's not just the captioning; it's the dialogue. I've given up watching anything rated 18+ or mature. There was one program that was really good with absolutely no profanity for the first two years. After that, every single member of the cast managed to use probably every single word in the Dictionary of Profanity. It was constant and for absolutely no reason. Not only that, but it didn't fit in a high-class law firm!
Hey Joyce, seen that you just joined us last Sunday, but you don't list your age, other than your last name of Senior.
Thanks for the age. I'm 72 and my wife 73. We definitely don't consider ourselves "old", but to some of the younger generation, we sure are. We are active as well, but not nearly as active as we were years ago, but still acive.
I'm a dance-aholic and only one other person has ever been able to keep up with me -- no matter what the age. And that person is the same age as I.
Remember when Rob and Laura Petrie (a married couple) could not share a bed on television? Or I Dream of Jeanie's costume could not show her belly button? Envelopes get pushed until there are no more envelopes at all.
It has been interesting to read through this topic, and surprising to see so many objections to profanity and depictions of what today's world looks and sounds like. But then, aside from a few particular vulgarisms that make me cringe, I've never minded hearing the commonly used profane words. I barely even notice them in movies or tv anymore.
LOL. Me too. Or, actually, my repertoire of profanity is not that large but includes a word in French and German, as well as an honored 4 or so in English. Some of the characters I write about, tho, can curse like a sailor. LOL
