What things make you feel nostalgic? Does it happen that you are sitting on the Internet and something has brought back pleasant memories? If so, what?

Usually, it's music. A song can transport me back in time. Also certain familiar smells (my mother's perfume; grandpa's pipe tobacco, etc.) And of course, looking through old photos.

I agree with @Beth Gallagher when she says "music." It's fascinating how certain songs bring up the feelings you had during the time you used to listen to them. There are a couple of music threads here that have sparked a lot of memories for me.

Photo albums, listening to music I enjoyed in my younger years, seeing how much my grandkids have grown and remembering when I held them after they were born. Looking in the mirror and seeing the many seasons of my life meander before me.

    Yep, music and smells.

Diesel fumes and hot dust take me back to Europe and Turkey.

Any early 1970s Crosby, Stills and Nash songs take me back to the early days of my marriage.

If I really want to go far back, one whiff of mothballs and I'm at my grandma's house for some fun, fun, fun.

Same here. My ex was a huge fan, especially of Stephen's.

You can add Joni Mitchell to that.

A quiet and lovely spring day with leaves and flowers in full bloom, birds singing and a pure blue sky tugs my heart strings.

Children playing I think. Yes, watching the kids play does bring back some memories of a time when nothing in the world mattered. Maybe it’s the innocence of it all. And ……maybe it isn’t even nostalgia at all but to some degree, envy.
Free hearts and minds doing what kids do….play.

During the holidays, when I use one of my mother's hand-written recipes or take some old family ornaments out, I always get caught up in "holidays gone by."

Not nostalgic much maybe but lovely memories... Of being spoiled...

In 1982 on a lifetime trip to London, I was footloose and fancy free aka single and keeping to myself. I met a guy who went head over heels in love with me. However, it never went anywhere as his only reason for rushing things were that I made more money in my job than he did. So, by his mother's words it ended. I was relieved...

Nevertheless, I received a bottle of "Prince Matchabelli Cachet" Eau de Toilette which I fell in love with. Of course the perfume not the guy lol lol lol...

Two years later, I met my husband-to-be and we had a whirlwind romance where he gave me a bottle of "Chanel No. 5". This time, I fell in love with the perfume and the guy ehehe.

Nowadays, I'm looking to get the perfume which was my signature go-to fragrance...

Wild Musk by Coty... and I've found recently under another name a sort of rebranding. As my birthday and Mothering Sunday are coming up next month, my sweet wee daughter will be getting me a bottle. Looking forward to that... Yup, spoiled... Aww good memories...

Music, smells, and photos transport me back to another time and place in my mind. Certain sounds like; pond frogs, crickets chirping, cicadas, and owls hooting remind me of long ago summer evenings playing outside long after dark with the neighbor kids or cousins, when I was a child. I feel like I have lived in the best of times in my youth.

Dear Krystal, you might enjoy listening in parts to this meditation music containing crickets, cicadas and more on a summer night...

The old HBO movie intro from the 80's. Many Saturday nights in front of the TV with the kids, eating popcorn.
