I have joked for years that my family can put my ashes out by the curb in an old mayonnaise jar on trash day. Actually, that's not far from the truth, so being fertilizer might work for me.
I don't care if that will be my empty shell of what used to be my earthly body. I've taken enough crap in my lifetime that I know I don't want to become a pile of crap!
I guess that I have mixed feelings about this idea. Since most forms of life, human, animal, or plant, decompose and return to the earth, once they are dead; I really do not see a problem with the basic idea of this. However, as humans, many of us have a need to know more about our family history (especially now with all of the ancestry tracing), and just to be able to visit the grave of a loved one and leave flowers. Even some dogs have been known to lay on the grave of their lost human companion and grieve their death. Having graveyards takes up a lot of space that could be used in other ways, it is true, and in that sense, composting the remains of people who die, seems to be a good solution; but I am just not sure that it will be an acceptable one.
BBBBut just think about it Babs. Since you’ve been handed and taken a lot of crap in your lifetime you have extra crap to give. The problem is that I don’t know if they can separate what is truly your crap from the crap someone else gave you. Hmmm…..I wonder if they have something like a blood bank where you can go and just unload a lot of crap. They might even pay for it but instead of giving by the pint you’d get paid by the pound.
That is totally true, and is also something that many people are doing nowadays. Unlike burying a whole body, the ashes can go almost anywhere that the family of the deceased wants to put them. While it is a memorial time for the family, it is nothing for future descendants to see, like visiting the cemetery is. Unless the population suddenly decreases really fast, I think that cemeteries will eventually become a thing of the past. Of course, if I put on my trusty tinfoil hat, then I might think that this pending legislation was because some evil cabal wants to send out a plague that a whole lot of people DO die from (unlike the covid one) and then they need to have body disposal methods already set up for when it becomes necessary.
Well here ya go. We have options, plenty of options. Even a ride into space or the moon! This article starts out with the creepy liquification plan but gets better as it goes. https://www.livescience.com/15980-death-8-burial-alternatives.html
Yup and no worries about it. What still creeps me out is that the explanation says that the leftover liquid is poured down the drain. I’ve long gotten over the fact that what we drink has first gone through a purification plant which strains, filters and cleans body waste material. But, somehow drinking what goes through the filter from an actual person is a little too close to cannibalism even if there is no DNA left over from the process. I do not care what happens to my body. They can tan me hide when I’m dead Fred but I kinda want to steer clear of what people do with other people’s bodies. Solent Green? Edit addition: I just had a weird thought. Whole parts of civilization will not go near pork much less consume it so I’m wondering what they’ll say about drinking liquified humans after it has gone through the processing plant? Gives a brand new meaning to: Don’t drink the water……
