Filling time is exactly my problem. I'm tired of playing games, internet,TV, naps. It's 105 F and too hot to go out.
I understand. Here's a link to various crossword puzzles. I do one a day. You could Google "hobbies for seniors" for ideas. I just did. One of the educational activities was Bird Watching, where you check off the birds as you identify them. You and Cranberry could do that together If you all don't have a book club, why not start one? You fill your time reading and then get together with others to socialize & discuss.
I think Lon, in part, was kidding about his Bible reply (towards Yvonne). He replied, in that thread, that he doesn't have a Bible and that's up to him. As far as what Bobby replied, Yvonne has had to combine some of Lon's threads/replies into ones that he's already done. That can become a pain, but we all have to remember that Lon is one of the oldest members of this forum. Like myself, sometimes, he will do a thread that, for some, might sound ridiculous, but to him, it's a thread and something to say/talk about. Of course, I do get tired of see pictures of his delicious looking meals and sometimes he will post a double picture of something. What I wonder is, just how much the residents go outside for anything during the year? I mean, this time of year, it is hot in Fresno, and that's just part of living there.
It seems that all forums have their ups and downs. I seldom start threads, and I appreciate Lon for at least making an effort to keep things interesting.
yes...and ...yes....I think it's a mindset deal...accept...find things to occupy us....cleaning and home projects used to do the trick for me....til I decided that was all overrated...ha!....laughter is the best medicine
I haven't been here long, but I've noticed the same, @Lon Tanner. It seems lots of new members don't post at all or just a few times, while a handful of long time members keep beating the same dead horses, and engage in aggressive commentary that too often end up in personal attacks. Going stale is a good description of it.
Can's wait to hear from Ken, Bobby and/or Yvonne about your feelings here. Bobby has already stated his feelings, of which, I totally understand.
Sigh. I don't know why it would matter what anyone else thinks about my observations (not feelings, those I have yet to reveal).
For those of you thinking it's stale... come up with something fresh. It's not up to the rest of us to entertain you.
For those who think the topics are stale, they should at least give us some idea what topics are of interest to them, so we can delve into it and learn new things. I, for one, in my retirement, love to learn about new things that interest me. I love to discuss biblical things, but that's not all - I have a math degree, so I especially love to delve into the world of the latest innovations in medicine, robotics, and modern modes of transport (such as e-cars). Did you know for example, that they have a new e-bicycle that weights less that 2 kg? Another is the recall of 4 million sleep apnea machines used by people all over the world, and their health has been placed in jeopardy (I have one of them - I went for a chest x-ray 2 weeks ago) Also, space exploration has always interested me, along with archaeological discoveries, and much more. So, name the subject, and I will delve into it.
I totally agree. Would you consider posting something that you've recently studied, or studied years ago, just to see how many of us would be interested? I might also add that I posted a bit about Germanic on this forum. I didn't add to it because I didn't get feedback. Is anyone interested? I'd be happy to continue.
