The last voyeur I encountered I called the cops on. Maybe that's a thread -- have you called the cops on anyone peeking in your windows? LOL

Not sure this is quite the group for tanning hides but we do raise meat rabbits. I just chastised daughter for throwing the hides and guts onto the manure pile. So, She has been acid tanning and plans on making some vests etc. She has done some lovely taxidermy. I have a fun squirrel Christmas tree topper.

I was thinking of raising meat rabbits but had read something about the protein not being absorbed because of too little fat in the critter. So what's your favorite way to cook them...fried or otherwise?

I'd like to hear about your rabbits.

If you feel like talking about it, you might wish to start your own thread. I'd give it a clear title so as to warn those who might find it to be off-putting.

We put them in a crock pot till cooked--maybe 4 hours--not so long as they get mushy. Then take the meat off the bones, add white wine, sauteed onions, parboiled or roasted carrots, veggies...seasonings. Cook a while longer, maybe 45 min-to an hour. Can add sour cream or a rue to some chicken broth for gravy. After taking the meat off the bones it can be used like chicken for any favorite recipe.
The low fat is what I like about it at our age. If you are worried, add some good olive oil.
My friend won't eat it because they are not kosher. He is not Jewish but it is not in the Bible under dietary laws.

I’ve never really cared for rabbit but as a highly seasoned smoked jerky it’s excellent. I had a guy who raised rabbits that would bring me a half dozen at a time to smoke for him. My seasoning and some Apple or Willow for the smoke and bingo..smoked rabbit.

On the 'pet rabbit' board they consider eating the rabbits cruel. They recommend just going to get your meat at the store where no animals are hurt.
    Uhmmmm...
