I heard this today and remembered how much I like it. I thought everyone here would enjoy it too. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah Well I heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music do you Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrough ya She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know) I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... There was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me do ya But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah
This is a beautiful song no doubt about that. My favorite song is Wind Beneath my Wings, Bette Midler's version. The reason being is I dedicated this song to my mom years ago for mother's day. Now when I hear this song I can't help but think of her. This may sound silly but there are times when I hear it on the radio and I feel like my mother is trying to send a message to me, I know like a said its sounds a bit silly.
It's funny how some songs can so vividly bring back memories - of places, of times, of people. Good memories, sad ones, melancholy ones. I have one song that I really like called "Be Somebody" by 3 Doors Down. It talks about a boy moving out and his mother lamenting the fact - "The day has come The son is moving on She don't know where he'll go Or when he's coming home She said 'Son take care, don't let your dreams get too far out of sight' He said 'I love you now, don't worry about me, you know I'll be fine' Cause I'm trying to be somebody I'm not trying to be somebody else This life is mine I'm living Don't you know me? I wont ever let you down" It came out around the time my son went off to college 8 years ago. Every time I hear it, I think of him packing up and us moving him to New York and getting him settled in his dorm room. I think of the success he is today, working on his PhD and doing so well in his relationships, etc. It always touches me. I want to reach out and hug him.
Gary, I assume you're a Vietnam Vet? If so, thank you so much for your service and sacrifice. As to your song, I, too, love Enya. She has such a unique voice and her songs can be haunting. My favorite from her is "Anywhere Is" - in fact, my husband and I named our first sailboat that. It reminds me that we have to keep living life, that we never know where live is taking us and we have to be open to whatever comes our way. It also reminds me that life can be short. I walk the maze of moments But everywhere I turn to Begins a new beginning But never finds a finish I walk to the horizon And there I find another It all seems so surprising And then I find that I know [Chorus:] You go there you're gone forever I go there I'll lose my way If we stay here we're not together Anywhere is The moon upon the ocean Is swept around in motion But without ever knowing The reason for its flowing In motion on the ocean The moon still keeps on moving The waves still keep on waving And I still keep on going [Chorus] I wonder if the stars sign The life that is to be mine And would they let their light shine Enough for me to follow I look up to the heavens But night has clouded over No spark of constellation No Vela no Orion The shells upon the warm sands Have taken from their own lands The echo of their story But all I hear are low sounds As pillow words are weaving And willow waves are leaving But should I be believing That I am only dreaming [Chorus] To leave the thread of all time And let it make a dark line In hopes that I can still find The way back to the moment I took the turn and turned to Begin a new beginning Still looking for the answer I cannot find the finish It's either this or that way It's one way or the other It should be one direction It could be on reflection The turn I have just taken The turn that I was making I might be just beginning I might be near the end.
thank you, yes i served in Nam from 1966-70. USN. I downloaded a lot of her music and made a CD. well actually two. one for home and one for the car. I didn't see any welcome wagon so im just jumping in. where you go sailing?? after 4 years at sea I don't even sit in a rocking chair
Welcome aboard (no pun intended). We're glad to have you here. It's pretty laid back and everyone is friendly. We all get along well, even if we don't always agree. I think you will enjoy your time here. We all look forward to getting to know you better. We lived in Virginia at the time, so we sailed around the Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately, my husband lost his job and the boat had to go bye-bye. We still dream, though, of getting another sailboat, sailing down the intra-coastal, around the Florida Keys and eventually getting to Belize. Knowing full well it will take years to get there - it's the journey, after all, not the destination.
@Gary R, this was one of my favorites way back. I always loved when it came on the radio. Since we seem to be on a theme, here's one I like and have been listening to a lot. There are several "remixes" of it, but I like this one best. It's pretty hard, so you guys might not like it, but it has a strong bass line which makes it interesting. "Sail" by AWOLNATION
