The publishing industry was having a dinner honoring foreign contributors to internationally-known magazines. One especially popular honoree was Sing Han Rhee, a Korean writer for Life Magazine. After all the visiting, the diner bell rang, and all were assembled at the huge table except for the Korean guest. After thoroughly searching all the gardens and buildings outside the vast dining room, he was finally found in the Greenhouse, hidden my some exotic ferns. The person who found him exclaimed with great relief: "Ah, sweet Mister Rhee of Life, at last I've found you!" (Only a few will get this joke...) Hal
I git it but you should be ashamed of yourself, Hal. What a stretch for a pun. I can do even worse, though. More to follow later.
I actually went to classes to learn how to bait a hook. I was Novice Baiter for a while, then was promoted to Apprentice Baiter. Finally I got my certificate for Master Baiter.
I’ll pass on this one. I’ve only allotted myself one groan a day so it’s gotta be for something special.
Well, don't get all pouty there Bobster, I am sure someone will make a post deserving your groan, just stay tuned.
Pants on fire, Faye. Now then, wanker means one thing to a Brit and something else to a Yank or even different things to different dictionaries. Wikipedia: Wanker is literally "one who wanks (masturbates)", but is most often used as a general insult. It is a pejorative term of English origin common in Britain and other parts of the English-speaking world (mainly Commonwealth nations), including Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. It initially referred to an "onanist" and is synonymous with the word tosser. Urban Dictionary: British slang for an idiot or fool. UK/Aus/NZ slang for: 1. Someone excessively and annoyingly pretentious and/or false, with a strong likelihood of working in the creative industries, especially "new media". Shoot, now I have to look up 'tosser' and 'onanist'. I pretty sure 'onanist' is one who does what Onan did. I did the same thing when planting my garden - I spilled my seed on the ground.
That's it, Beth...good for you! Hal "Now, at last I know the secret of it all..." This is the great Victor Herbert song from the 1935 operetta "Naughty Marietta", sung by Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy. American operetta has great stuff, like "Stouthearted Men", "Tramp Tramp Tramp" "The Red Shadow", etc. Hal
