Who was the beneficiary of your life insurance and did the Insurance Company give you the option to continue benefits. ?

For being an old goat I got a reduction on my car insurance $1530.00 for a year as opposed to S1777.00

I could not agree more. I had money taken out of my check whether I could afford it or not.

Entitled. If a law was passed or a contract signed that for work you received money or services, is that entitled? Yes as you are entitled to the agreed upon pay for your work. Getting it when you are a certain age as agreed upon? Yes, we are entitled/owed.

Funny, I don't think of social security as being an entitlement, more like delayed compensation / forced savings.

It's nice that some businesses give discounts to seniors. It's good PR for them, and maybe encourages some seniors to try a new business that they wouldn't have otherwise because of getting a small price break. I don't feel entitled to get a discount just because I managed not to die before now.

I don't feel entitled but I know many that think just because they're old they have the right to do and say whatever they want. I disagree with that.

I really think rather than feeling entitled we should feel grateful that we have all the blessings we have had and be grateful we were given the years we have considering many died young

The word "entitled" is used as if it's a bad thing, but I don't consider entitlements such as Social Security as being any more of an entitlement than a wage or a salary that I have worked for. Whether I believe that Social Security was a good thing or an early step toward socialism is irrelevant because it's in place, I paid into it, and I didn't have a choice. If I qualify for Social Security, then I am indeed entitled to it.

I don’t so much feel entitled as I feel fortunate. It’s not everyone that gets the chance to get to the point in their lives where they are considered to be “senior, either by themselves or by others. I do though enjoy the perks that come with reaching the age that I am. A free coffee or a half price bus fare is a nice thing on occasion.

I’ve found most seniors in the 65-79 age group feel entitled to speak as though they are the authority on aging, the elderly, and death. These seniors can’t listen to what the elderly have to say because they can’t face their own mortality. The elderly over 80 have a different perspective that looks toward the end of their life and thereafter and have become more interested in spiritual things than the physical world they’ve had to contend with all their life.

Seniors under 80 can’t cope with this perspective and can’t face their own mortality and they desperately try to get the elderly to reverse their perspective and re-engage in everything seniors do to try to fend off death, which no one accomplished yet . At most a total preoccupation with diet, exercise, vitamins, medicine, doctors, surgeons, entertainment, socializing and education classes could do for the elderly would be to prolong life a few more months, and many elderly have developed other interests and just want to be left alone to pursue them, whether it’s sleeping or watching TV. And surely they are entitled to choose what they want to do.

It depends on the individual circumstance. I never considered my mortality until I was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago. That will get a person focused on end-of-life issues in a damn hurry. :D I agree that I am entitled to choose what I want to do... and I do. I no longer feel obligated to do anything I don't want to.

First, concerning the OP, I feel only entitled to what I earned or paid into. My social security and union retirement benefit is not an entitlement, even though I am entitled by law to receive it.

I feel I am entitled to respect as a senior because I have always shown respect for my elders.

I don't feel I owe other seniors respect if they lived an irresponsible carefree life sponging off society or an inheritance.

Speaking for myself, I resolved all things spiritual when I was a young adult. I searched for answers that applied to me concerning the power of the universe. The more I age the more it becomes clear that the revelations I received back then were on track and will hold true till I die. As it applies to me the statement Rose made that my age group cannot conceive mortality is nonsense. I have looked death in the eyes numerous times and told the grime reaper what it could go do with itself (I assume it is gender neutral LOL).

Waiting for a life flight to take me to Seattle because of a brain blood clot, was just another time I put myself in a trance and seeing the light received the message that Hell didn't want me and Heaven would require some remodeling before I could claim my spot there. Then another specialist came in to tell me they had made a mistake. It was a noncancerous mass. It is still there and it doesn't bother me since I had a chat with it and threatened to have it cut out which would end its life, and while I might suffer some brain malfunction, I would be alive and it would be dead. Even tumors like feeling entitled and fear death.

Not even cancer gave me a feeling of entitlement and I have never played the cancer card. I had it cut out and by a stroke of luck or the fact heaven still wasn't ready, I escaped chemo which very well might have killed me with my compromised immune system.

I found out years ago and it is confirmed more every day that I could feel entitled all I want, but nobody gives a damn. I can jump up and down about being disenfranchised and all that will result is stronger legs

I rarely take "senior" discounts...but many of them start at age 55.

I don't take senior discounts because I forget to which basically proves I'm a senior.
